Advice/tips for a 20 year old who has never done karate? by spanky6in karate

This is true. I should have been a bit more clear.

How do i get explosive hips/kicks? by Liquidshinsin martialarts

[–]yamfood 0 points1 point ago

Funny, but we do it a little different in our style (Shorinjiryu Kenkokan Karatedo, which is basically the original karate). If I throw my right roundhouse I'll either cover my face with my right or extend it towards my kicking foot. Either way it's very difficult to punch the kicker in the face. The left hand would generally be covering the solar plexus.

Hit harder by recoiling faster? by demosthenes83in martialarts

[–]yamfood 0 points1 point ago

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. If you hit something hard then an equivalent amount of impact force is returning to your hand. If you let your hand linger there then all of the energy (or most) will be reflected, but if you remove your hand quickly the energy has nowhere to go.

Do we need to reinstate the Glass-Steagall Act? by Grdekenin Economics

True. Well I feel dumb.

Umm I would highly advise against dropping your arm like that when you kick since you will be completely exposing your head and if the dude steps in on you and punches you will get dummied. You yourself say always keep up your guard. One should also do so when kicking, with the hand either covering the face, or extended directly towards the kicking foot.

Edit: sorry I reread your comment and now I'm just confused. So if I'm in a orthodox stance and I'm throwing my right rear foot in a roundhouse, my right hand is by my face right? And also, what am I supposed to be doing with my left?

Damn you're right. It's not just the music itself, but the scoring is masterful as well. Really good music on this show without a doubt.

Do we need to reinstate the Glass-Steagall Act? by Grdekenin Economics

Under most normal circumstances banks carefully analyse risk before they approve loans. If they make bad loans they go under too, so they normally do their best not to lend money to bad debtors. For a number of reasons the banks felt they could take on much more risk than they actually could here, necessitating bailouts when they were unable to meet their commitments.

There's a lot to the housing bubble that you're missing. The government was encouraging banks to lend and guaranteeing mortgages to a greater degree since the Clinton era because they wanted to increase the number of homeowners. This led partially to the original savings and loan debacle in the 90s. Later this effect was magnified by Bush's exhortation to Americans to spend and rock-bottom interest rates after 9/11.

But we shouldn't ignore two other important aspects: 1) the banks were producing highly dubious securities out of the mortgage debt and selling them; 2) by selling these securities the banks felt they were removing the risk from their balance sheet and that they could take on much more risk than they actually could because of this. All of this was a result of deregulation, and the massive size of these investments was a direct result of the big banks being able to play risky bets with their commercial assets.

I think you're being a little coy here. Commercial banks have traditional sources of revenue, but since Glass-Steagall's repeal they have been free to also try to invest in speculative securities. Before that happened we had a much more stable, although already highly deregulated financial market. Afterwards we had two massive bubbles and their implosions led to massive recessions. You seem to be saying that we should let banks continue to reek this kind of havoc and consumers who don't want to be part of this should choose other providers. But this still leaves the possibility of another bubble, implosion, and bailout funded by the taxpayer.

Alright fair enough, but he never pushed back against it in power. Or any other socially conservative issue for that matter, except a little with funding abortions in the South.

Yea I guess I'm considering that wage in Toronto, where it's not very much considering the cost of living.

He means that even without knowing the background of this clip specifically a smart media observer could learn a lot from this clip. With the background we can certainly learn more, but that goes without saying.

Both neoliberals, both expanded the powers of the PMO. Trudeau said the state has no place in the people's bedrooms; Harper presided over the legalization of same-sex marriage without a peep. They both massively expanded the state. I'd say there's more similarity than difference really. It's the illusion of choice.

I'm sorry but are people supposed to jump for some $14/hour job? What are you making there like $24000/year? Not that it's terrible money, but without more information about the job/company, the fact they can't find people at that rate is not that shocking.
