Terrified of relaxing my mind. Help? by coraltoin Meditation

[–]xoxoyoyo 0 points1 point ago

So, what do you think meditation is? Are you able to sit for a minute and listen to yourself breathing OR feeling the air go in and out OR watching your chest rise and fall?

That is meditation. You will have thoughts come in and distract you. That is fine, happens to everyone. As soon as you notice them go back and watch your breathing. Repeat for 5, 10 or 15 minutes.

Ok. I can't really speak to anything with bipolar/ADD. I'll assume they have you on some medication that is necessary for proper functioning. The combination of medication, weed and mediation probably needs to be tweaked.

So first off, what is your creative passion (with integrity) in life? If you could do anything, what would it be? If you don't know, then you can make it your passion to find out. If you know but don't believe it is possible to sustain yourself with that, then you might need to explore that. Life should be about continuously following our greatest passion at any given moment. It is the way to resolve the deep split we have within our being, that of need vs desire. Whatever you find here, take action on it, whatever it may be. The action will create movement within you and all the stuck energy should start flowing.

Secondly, mediation is a tool that can be used to support any effort in our life. The purpose is not really to have experiences. No doubt they are great, but it is also important to move beyond them. That is the stage you are at now. This "no reward" state is one that is vastly important and meaningful. Other parts of your self are putting up tremendous resistance. Your mind is rebelling. "Nothing is happening. A waste of time. This is stupid. Just stop doing it."

Work on allowing and accepting these feelings. Everyone has them at some point. They are normal. You have to go through them to get to the next stage. Don't resist them, but at the same time, don't listen to them.

Next, the medication and weed. This combination might be too much, the interaction may be causing some of the issues you experience. You might want to consider cutting back on the weed or talking to your doctor to tweak your medication.

Anyway good luck. :)

When and why would a teacher in Vipassana be necessary? by Dunabuin Meditation

[–]xoxoyoyo 2 points3 points ago

Trust your life and your intuition in this regard. Go browse in a bookstore and see if you find anything "interesting". Write down what you remember of your dreams every morning and then see if you can relate them to your life. Your life is the real teacher. The greatest purpose for external teachers is to help you connect to the teacher within. That being said, if you feel great motivation to find an external teacher, then you should do it.

Remove the concept of time. How does it change the Cosmological argument? by xoxoyoyoin DebateReligion

[–]xoxoyoyo[S] 0 points1 point ago

I am not familiar enough with them to know the difference. They all appear fairly similar. Ie: everything that exists/happens has a cause. Go back far enough and there is an uncaused cause, (first cause). They all assume the notion of time. But time as we know it is a "property" of physical reality, it is not something that could be used to give rise to it.

To athiests: Do you think that all the problems would solve if people became atheists? by txampionin DebateAnAtheist

[–]xoxoyoyo -2 points-1 points ago

I see religions as neutral tools. People apply their own historical cultural and societal biases to the things they do. They justify this with their "interpretations". This is action of "ego".

In order to be able to flat out blame religion then what you claim has to apply to all practitioners of that religion. Not "most" or "some".

A global switch to "another" belief system won't do anything unless the deficiencies of ego are solved. At that point people will not need to treat other people like shit, regardless of beliefs.

are you meditating regularly? Are you reading a lot to support your practice? Are you open to learning? Those are the only things you really need. Your life will direct you for everything else.

the things you don't understand about other people are the things you don't understand about yourself. look at everyone as someone that can teach you something about yourself. and work hard at learning more about yourself. for other people, drop the need to know them completely. instead enjoy what life chooses to reveal to you.

it is not religion that causes any problems, it is the reactivity of ego. in that regards atheism will not fix anything. it will be just another tool that ego uses.

so you smoke weed and you meditate and the meditation is causing problems for you?

edit: sorry if that sounds harsh, but if you want to start making progress you are going to have to be more honest about what is going on with yourself.

Does extreme good luck in life ever give you doubts? by aureal0in DebateAnAtheist

[–]xoxoyoyo 0 points1 point ago

That is your view based on the way you choose to understand the concepts. And yes, the "abraham" & the secret & oprah and so forth do project this type of impression so the view is very understandable.

All the same there are different ways to see what is happening.

100% movement (speed of light) = 0% time, 100% time = 0% movement. Of course with relativity the rules distort based on the relationships of multiple objects.

And yeah, I was not trying to disprove the cosmological argument so much as present some interesting concepts that can be explored using it.

No, they are choosing to to put a focus on 3rd world problems. Every person that dies is making one final statement with the manner in which they die. It is up to the society they live in and then the world in general to take notice and do something about it. The privileged horseshit is how 15k kids can die daily and barely anybody notices except in a wikipedia stat. The alternative view is what? It is just meaningless? God's punishment? In the context of "we create our own reality" it is our responsibility to fix the problems that exist within our reality. It is not an abrogation of responsibility.

We are after all, human, doing what humans do. Comforting each other and ourselves in times of crisis. We may have our beliefs about things, but all the same we can be wrong. And in some ways, if we let go of what we think we know, that idea can be comforting.

First off, it took a tremendous amount of bravery to do what he did.

I do not like that another assisted him in the process. That may be nitpicky but that is my feeling there.

I also have to wonder how Gandhi's non-violent resistance movement would have been affected if there were self-immolations at that time. Would it have sped things up or slowed them down?

you are making another case for a "universe simulation" ? Or are you suggesting an actual universe that exists at a different "frequency" or some sort of "phase shift" so that matter between the two does not interact? Or are you merely pondering the likelihood that our universe is a simulation if we can create the same? I have the latter belief. :)

Under a great deal of stress recently and it's creeping into my meditation, any tips? by Reaps21in Meditation

[–]xoxoyoyo 5 points6 points ago

The question is, what are you resisting? Instead try thanking the universe for bringing up a situation where you can learn more about yourself, then unconditionally accept the situation and be grateful for having it. And then work on changing it. But you have to accept it first.

once you use them to take you someplace you should be able to recreate that state. if so, it is a useful tool. If you have to continually take them, then not so much. If they are interfering with the living of life, then they are bad. Life is the true teacher.

That goes along the no-self theme. There are some modern zen guys that talk about the experience, example, adyashanti, another (80's, not zen) Nisargadatta.

It is described as having no inner experience at all. Talking to someone is described as seeing two people talking.
