Why does Winzip still exist? More importantly, who in their right mind would pay $30 for it? by RZephyr07in software

Not just tech-support, but also the weight to drive product development. If a big organization adopts some product they have a ton of leverage to get the kind of development out of it that they want. Simply having that as an option in reserve is considered a strategic advantage.

This T-Mobile vs AT&T commercial just aired 5 minutes ago... oops by kungfo0in gadgets

AT&T doesn't have to eliminate the T-Mobile brand. If any thing, perhaps AT&T is buying T-Mobile in order to get an untainted and functioning brand name. The vast majority of people are ignorant of corporate buy outs.

(Federal Trade Commission, are you there?)

Google should buy T-Mobile, or atleast make a bid for it for Android's sake by ombxin Android

I think google may be waiting for a disruptive wireless technology that will make present carriers' investments nearly worthless. Google will have to get involved sooner or later, the carriers are getting very greedy.

What's especially interesting is that this meme, which as far as I know started in the 80s, could have been any kind of butt. But, maybe not, maybe it had to be chicken butt.

SpaceChem (now out on Steam) is the best puzzle game I've played in years. by ItsOppositeDayHerein gaming

This game is a great example of how important that is, I found The Codex of Alchemical Engineering to be unplayable (still impressive and cool), but spacechem gets me into a zone that's really enjoyable.

My most recent solution, I'm not that far in the game, but it's already pretty wild. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hR0mBiOPC5w

When playing this game the feeling is so unique I think it breaks out of the puzzle genre. My solutions aren't very effecient, but they look cool. I'm not very far in the game yet.

I don't really care or know about any of this, but I actually rather like the idea of a boycott/shame campaign that is 3 years late. That sort of strangeness would keep evil corporate people constantly guessing whether or not they got away with their evil deeds.

The WSJ Makes a Perfect Case for Student Loan Forgiveness | Forgive Student Loan Debt to Stimulate the Economy by bobbyapplesin education

That make sense.

I think that student loan forgiveness site pitches it as a tax bailout that would go to banks to pay off student loans. It's a little vague, and it also sort of glosses over the fact that doing such wouldn't fix anything, school would still be crazy expensive, so people would still need crazy loans. It basically says "yea something has to be done about that too"

Why would a bank loan at 0%? That's a loss for them, they could do something better with the money. That's not going to happen.

Something interesting they are not reporting on TV:

http://wcatwc.arh.noaa.gov/2011/03/11/lhvpd9/10/messagelhvpd9-10.htm

TSUNAMI AMPLITUDES ARE EXPECTED TO PEAK TWO TO THREE HOURS AFTER INITIAL ARRIVAL ALONG THE NORTH AMERICAN COAST.

I'd probably just set my alarm for 6ish and get some sleep, the San Francisco inundation zone isn't that big.

A USGS guy on TV said they don't normally fully report their prediction until 3 hours before the "Inundation time", which.. if the early prediction is 8 am, would be 5 am.

2nd reply, according to the national weather service on my scanner, which has the warning on a loop, you're supposed to go to http://wcatwc.arh.noaa.gov/ for more information.

For what it's worth, it is not currently say to evacuate, it's saying to stand by.

It's kind of fucked up, nothing will reach until 8am, but the news is being contradictory and weird. I'm guessing they are playing cautious to keep emergency personal on standby, but don't want to trigger the tsunami sirens until they're certain.

It's nuts because the news is contradictory. Right now channel 5 just reported that it's only a watch, but the EBS, and my scanner on the national weather service, are still reporting a warning on a loop. But also.. the sirens have not gone off. This is pretty busted. (I'm not personally worried too much because I'm not in the tsunami zone)

The local TV media has utterly dropped the ball. A state wide Tsunami emergency broadcast Warning which is supposed to mean that a tsunami is coming, and they're all running reruns of stupid ass shit. This is a MASSIVE fucking fail.

The national weather service on my scanner is going off on a loop. 8:08am is the arrival time. They're directing people to http://wcatwc.arh.noaa.gov/. (incorrectly btw, the url they're repeating on the radio is wrong, they're reporting http://wcatwc.noaa.gov/, without the arh)

A lot of people in or right out of school seem to get hung up on getting interview questions correct. If it's a good job then answering correctly isn't nearly as important as being good at working your way through it in a positive way, demonstrate what you do know, but where you get stuck.

The absolute worst candidates are those that start making weird or angry excuses for not knowing, instead of just admitting it and asking for the answer. Those people are huge potential risks because when faced with a real problem they won't seek help when they need it.
