This is a good and well-reasoned argument. Personally, I was hooked at "Brink?" but I understand that not everyone was. I am worried, however, at how many times I've seen "You gotta watch the show! It makes references to Lebowski!" as if that were all it did, which must lead to disappointment when there's scarcely one reference per three episodes.

What bothers me is that these things are not why we watch MLP. What they are is things that we like that also happen to be in MLP, but we would like the show just the same without them--but these things are a lot easier to explain to others than the things that really do make MLP wonderful. The writing, the animation, the voice acting, the heart--all of that is what makes the show something special. The references are just gravy.
