Weirdly mainstream Ubuntu coverage by lonjerpcin Ubuntu

I wish she named Ubuntu in the video, but I'm happy to see the screenshots of it and the reference to it below in the article. I think Ubuntu's goal should be name recognition: Whenever someone talks about cell phones, they mention droid and the iphone; when someone talks about computer OSs, they should be mentioning Windows, Mac, and Ubuntu.

the "looks like shit" part is what bugs me the most. I can adjust to the usability aspects, but the inconsistent shifting of the window controls (fullscreened window w/ launcher set to dodge) or outright disappearance when the fullscreened window is visible but not the focused window are two LOOK problems that make Ubuntu appear unpolished. It makes it look hacked together (in the worse sense of that word) and not a proper cohesive design.

that's exactly what I was going for, integrating the menus into the titlebar on all windows, maximized and non-maximized.

I use a netbook with the desktop version of Ubuntu. I would replace the bottom panel with Docky, set to auto-hide/dodge. This gives you extra room to work with.

I'm going to guess that it's a ram issue. If you can't boot to a live cd, we know it's not the hdd. After ram, I would guess motherboard. To check ram, do a memtest.
all it takes is a username and password

is it really that easy? only one way to find out...
