You know what, I kinda realized as soon as I posted my first comment that I took it a little far. I absolutely agree with you and will go so far as to say that even when a guy "plays it casual" we can't really help ourselves from expressing interest. Any buddy of mine who see's me interact with an attractive girl will laugh because it's painfully obvious I'm making an extra effort, even if it's not entirely noticeable to a random person.

My advice to you girls (from my experience) goes like this. If you find a guy attractive put in a little extra effort, ask an extra question, go out of your way to start a conversation or simply give him a smile. Nothing to big or confrontational just test the waters. If he responds positively he probably likes you and knows you might have an interest in him. At this point nature takes over and says "I don't give a fuck if you don't know her man, get up in that shit". This is when guys become almost irrational (as described in your first post). We can still play it casual but we will seek to continue that bond and as a result put in effort to start conversations and show some interest especially if the girl doesn't seem to put in the effort. At this point guys will continue to pursue you until they either A) achieve their goal or B) think you aren't into them and avoid further embarrassment.

I won't even try to go into the dynamics of those already in a relationship and that factors that affects.

Either way there's my entire dating psyche layed out on the table; I imagine it's similar to most guys on here.

Dude are you being serious? In my experience there are a number of girls who find over fanaticism an instant turnoff, I intentionally play it casual sometimes just to avoid looking needy and cause them to chase me a bit (even if I seriously fall for them). In a perfect world your rule would be great but there are too many games when it comes to dating for there to be a be all end all.

EDIT: Just realized you're probably a girl, hence the possible misunderstanding.

I think it has a lot to do with detachment. It easy to say "cut their hands off if they don't work" but it's harder to do to a living breathing person. Therefore the king makes a rule based on his detached circumstances and has someone go through with it because "they are just following orders". I think you would have be some kind of sociopath to do this to people and not feel any regret.

Not a lot of guys will admit this but it is hard to start a conversation in a non awkward way with a girl you don't know. Look for conversations starters, something in common; I put up my best stats at school and work because there are default conversation starters.
