[offer] I'll make a simple website for your business. by tehalynnin Favors

[–]tehalynn[S] 0 points1 point ago

Your website idea sounds simple enough that I could do it. I'll send you a questionnaire at some point to get started.

Your work website, however, is probably more than I want to get into at this point. Though there is one simple thing that would make the site look much better: fixing the logo and flier images. Those images were originally small, but have been stretched. That's why they look so bad. If anyone can find me high-resolution versions of those images I can fix them for you.

I'm not planning to do anything with WordPress just yet.

Though if it's possible to make the front page outside of WordPress, I might be able to help you.

None of them feature student-centered learning, therefore they are all inadequate, in my opinion.

Iron Chef sounds really fun.

While I appreciate the surprise of announcing ingredients one at a time, it would be impractical for me to make a separate trip to get each one. So I vote that you announce them all in advance.

What productivity system do you use to get things done? by azurmadilloin productivity

The desktop versions of Task Coach are completely free. The iOS versions of Task Coach come with a small price tag because it costs us money to make them available.

[–]tehalynn 1 point2 points ago

My theory on productivity is this: It should be easy to get started on the best thing you can.

To determine the best thing I can work on, I sort my tasks by priority. The priority represents how much progress the task makes toward my goals, though I will increase the priority of urgent tasks.

Prioritization also makes it easy to get started. I don't have to decide what task to work on; it's always the topmost one. I also try to make all my tasks bite-sized, so that they're easy to accomplish.

The program I use for my list is Task Coach, which does support sorting and recurring tasks. It has an iPhone version, though I haven't tried it.

I still think that reading is a better way to learn than watching video. One of their arguments for video (It can allow kids to learn at their own pace) is a better argument for books than for video.

Video certainly is suitable for demonstrations that are hard to describe in words, but in my opinion, video should be supplemental to, not a replacement for, reading.

Guys! Someone did an article on me, and it rocks! by superfiedmanin hitchbro

I'm interested in hearing about your journey, but I don't really have time to watch the videos. For me, having a recap like this every week would be ideal. Especially if they were easy to find/subscribe to.

YSK How to cut down on your redditing by chrisv650in YouShouldKnow

[–]tehalynn 1 point2 points ago*

I tried things like this for 5 years without success. I'm not convinced that an external tool or person can enforce a behavior. If you want to be more productive, I recommend trying what I've been doing for a few months; it seems to be working great. Here's my full daily routine:

First, I don't turn on my computer until I've finished my morning routine (wake up, read a book, eat breakfast, shower, go for a walk). I find I'm less prone to distraction when I'm fully awake.

When I do turn on my computer, the first thing that comes up is my to-do list. It's sorted by priority, and tasks are written so that each can be started right away. There's no decision about what to start; it's the topmost item every time. The reason this is so good is it makes it incredibly easy to get started (and on the highest priority task too!)

I've found that using my computer at night interferes somewhat with my biological clock, so I use a program to remind me to start my bedtime routine. After the reminder goes off, I brush my teeth, put on my pajamas then either watch videos or read for a bit to wind down before going to sleep.

tl;dr: Blocking access to reddit probably won't help. Instead, make it super easy to identify and start your most productive task.

LPT Request: How to stay awake in class by Waffle_Fishin LifeProTips

[–]tehalynn 0 points1 point ago

I can see several possibilities for why you fall asleep in class. * Your diet induces sleepiness. * You are not actually as well rested as you believe. * You have an inconsistent sleep schedule. * Your class is not relevant to you, or you don't know why it is relevant. * Your judge whether an activity is worthwhile solely by how entertaining it is, thus excluding unentertaining but useful actions.

Graphic representation of exactly how much "science" appears on science-related tv networks by Pilebsa[Freethinker]in Freethought

[–]tehalynn 0 points1 point ago

This can easily be explained by the fact that these are television channels. Television is judged by how entertaining it is, and educational television is no different.

For more on this, read Amusing Ourselves to Death, chapter 10: Teaching as an Amusing Activity. For that matter, I recommend reading the whole book. It details the unexpected, unnoticed, and far-reaching ways in which television has changed our culture.

Instead of reading long-winded self-help/business books, read their summaries on WikiSummaries by clgonsalin LifeProTips

[–]tehalynn 0 points1 point ago*

If you learn to incorporate skimming into your reading method, you can drill down to the most useful information quite quickly. This enables you to spend only as much time as is necessary to learn what is relevant to you. And it works on any book, not just ones others have summarized for you.

See How to Read a Book for more information.

I believe that the road to sustainability is not an extreme impact reduction by a few, but a reasonable impact reduction by many.
