If I leave water in a plastic bottle for a few days, does it become unsafe to drink?

Well the reason I ask is the idea of storing water like this in case of emergency. Drought, riot, apocalypse, contamination of water sources in living area etc. could you just stockpile water in 2L's and have water for awhile after the emergency. This is of course assuming the water doesn't just evaporate and leave you with empty plastic bottles.

If you were to have a collection of plastic water bottles (normal 2L) would you be okay to rinse them as thoroughly as possible store water in them and just take the water out, boil it, filter it, maybe use chemicals? Would it matter if the water was kept for a week, a month, a year?

What made you decide to go into physics instead of the other fields of science? If you had more time/money would you study other fields or are you completely happy with what you get out of your area of expertise?

I know theres probably a ton of old posts that would tell me exactly what I could do, but I didn't want to end up being a week from now saying I shoudl go search reddit for meditation guides and then never end up doing it. Just kind've wanted to jump right on it and cut out the middle man with this so I could have a starting place to go from and do more reading about this as time goes on.

Steven Colbert's is the best (on the new power saving bulbs) how many blondes does it take to screw in a light bulb? I don't know its only been 7 years we haven't had to change one yet.
