How I feel after playing my bass for an extended period of time and then pick up my guitar... by SisypheanLifein funny

[–]spurton 0 points1 point ago

That's one reason why I play a 3/4-scale bass. If I had to play a full size, I wouldn't be able to do it.

Been listening to him on Spotify last few days. Tom Waits, not your uncle.

Frustrated by strangeasangelsin Fitness

[–]spurton 15 points16 points ago

It may be your genetics... I lost 30+lbs, started doing cardio and my triglycerides went up, had to get on Lopid. Now I am in normal range. That sort of thing runs on my dad's side of the family.

Thank you. by JoeBetain Meditation

What are the dangers of meditation? (See text) by gekogekogekoin Meditation

[–]spurton 3 points4 points ago

Some more info: http://ronyabanks.com/2011/11/19/dark-night-of-the-soul/ I think someone who has worked with Daniel Ingram is doing research on this exact phenomenon from a psychological standpoint. I can't seem to find any info on that research though.

As long as you keep that neutral view "This is a vehicle, not all people should operate vehicles". I would love to read your book.

Meditation amplifies your thoughts. Things buried way deep come up often. This is how you deal with them. Shining a light on your own bullshit so-to-speak. This is not always pleasant. Have you heard of The Dark Night of the Soul? http://www.kktanhp.com/vipassana_htm.htm. She may have experienced that, which is often described after a long retreat.

What are the dangers of meditation? (See text) by gekogekogekoin Meditation

[–]spurton 2 points3 points ago

With proper teaching, they should come to realize their thoughts are not "them". So if you see thoughts are conditional and not "real or absolute", why would you EVER believe them, no matter what the content? On the other side of this, many people believe their thoughts are "them" and seeing that it isn't true well...

The false self is delusional, delusions are powerful. Meditation, over time should be like a slow drift into this realization of my thoughts are not me. Maybe she went too fast without the proper guidance? The middle way is an important thing to know deeply. We can go on and on about what/when/why/how but it proves that having a proper teacher and sangha are important. I am sorry for your loss.

This is true. You can't show the way if you are gone. Unless she is showing the way to people who hear her story, to not go that route? Odd aint it?

Exactly, I love kinhin to get the blood flowing and nerves untingled. I still haven't been able to keep my meditative state during though.

The nature of change that brought this will be the same change that causes it to fade. I tell myself this when I need it. Hope this helps.

How often do you weigh in? by Tattycakesin loseit

[–]spurton 0 points1 point ago

I never weigh in. I use my belt loop to determine progress. If I weighed in, I would be bummed out all the time. My waist line is smaller every week or so but my weight has went up at least 10lbs since Jan. I do SS with accessory work. If I look better and clothes are more lose around the waistline, I am good.

Keto usually breaks plateaus, also you might give the leangains diet a try. It seems to be doing well on me. I can't stay with a keto diet for too long so I might do some keto if I hit a sticking spot too. Nice work man!

This will probably get buried but... I think I met you when Train Wreck played in Bakersfield CA about 5 years ago. I remember you because you hung out with my wife a bit at the bar. She was pregnant with my son and Kyle signed her belly "lil Kyle". Not sure if you remember that or not.
