Hah 2027. The year Square-Enix makes a good enough Final Fantasy game again that would actually prompt you to want a poster of it on your wall.

Alright then we should make a separate sub-reddit for "this happened to me and that was that" because I enjoy the non-rage comics just as much as the rage comics. That one you mentioned, I agree, was lame and out of place, but oh well sometimes you gotta sift through some dirt to find gold.

With your permission I would like to quote your entire post on a discussion group I am currently a part of on Facebook. I really enjoyed your points and I couldn't agree more. I feel that the level of careful intricacy expressed here is essential on this topic and to save it for further implementation just feels necessary.

I guess you could say that I think/believe this with a high degree of certitude. ;P

Isn't this where most atheists apply Occam's Razor?

Acknowledging possibilities is one thing, but to the extent any given human being can acknowledge an actuality -- we rely on evidence.

I tend to use the "box argument" here (for lack of a better name). If you have a box and you don't know what's in it. The possibilities could be and endless array of things that would ultimately fit inside a box of whatever dimensions. Unless you're physically able to look inside the box then you shouldn't bother assuming anything about what is contained inside of it. It should simply remain a box with unknown contents. Other people can tell you what's inside the box and explain that to you, but you're never going to be certain of what you take on hearsay. Just like if a scientist one day says "I've proved the many worlds theory!" and you wonder "Well... is this guy for real or is he a nut?".

We will always go through life having to assume some things we can't empirically observe are true and we have to believe that doing this will provide us some well-founded knowledge. This kind of reasoning is supported by evidence in the form of a consensus of empirical observations and explanations.

When it comes to the possibility of something and the consensus is a completely disingenuous attempt to marry the concept of faith with that of certainty on the notion of a deity, it is clear that what we're dealing with is not only lacking sufficient evidence, but it is also typically based on ill-founded logic and reason to begin with.

So far I feel like I can relate to everyone that's posted so far. This is good. I hope this post gathers more attention. I'm honestly curious across all corners of the "redditsphere" of what people think about this.

This is exactly what I described my position as prior to shifting perspectives. Now I can say that my perspective still entails this, but is now broadened more by specific examples. I'm sure most atheists are the same in this, but just define, at times, their position with fewer words. This is what may have contributed to a bad impression for observers like myself. I started out as a really terrible person because of my outspoken atheism, but with time and discussion I believe I've arrived at a more respectful place.

A perfect example of why fewer words can sometimes make it more difficult to comprehend the entirety of someone's perspective.

I like this because I really did forget to delve into specific differences. I would say for the most part though I was referring to the deistic notion of a god in essence when I stated my original post. That was where my perspective shifted, but I imagine that if I were to break each and every religion down into what's possible and impossible based on known criteria I would probably have something quite interesting just like this.

Thank you for sharing.

Biblical Ark or not, there is a severe lack of gigantic ass boats in the world. In the event of a meteorite hitting the Pacific or Atlantic oceans we'd be better off having a big ass piece of wood to drift away on. Imagine all the atheists just chillin' on the ark while the rest of the world forgets that it's supposed to be a functional flotation device.

I choose not to suck your cock. However, if I had to make you as a friend in jail... or if you gave me something. I'm afraid even if I'd be totally fine with cock sucking I don't think my friends would let that slide without poking fun. It'd really have to be a really... really clean cock.

I still like vaginas more.

Exactly this. It's why I made the effort to summarize in the first place. I was trying to defend myself over Facebook in that I'm not doing anything wrong by discussing religion with other people even in the derogatory sense of said religions. I conveyed I was attacking an idea or a concept rather than a personality or individual. This was more or less the cherry I placed upon the tasteful argument I prepared.

I'm glad you pointed this out because it's so very relevant. Upvote and cheers.

Well yeah, you can prove that, but existence is not equal to efficiency of prayer. I'm with you that the correlation is good enough to convince me at this point, but I can't ignore that it's not really deducible from that fact alone as it could just be a really ignorant god or a preoccupied one.

I do see your former point as well and, while I do agree with it, I can't help but feel that it's a little bit flawed when you consider youth indoctrination. Children aren't exactly equipped to make smart decisions without being properly educated. They aren't screwed up, but later on when they've invested so much of their life in a belief system they'll definitely then be screwed up enough not to be able to make smart or rational decisions without some form of belief that a deity is intervening with their rationalization process.

He also suffered from stomach ulcers because of the countless hours and stress he put himself through to make it his best work because it was his debut as a game composer and he wanted to prove himself to Square execs at the time that he was capable of doing it. He even went as far as to give Hironobu Sakaguchi an ultimatum that he would be allowed to compose or he would quit. The story behind the game is just as epic as the game itself. There is a reason they were labeled the Dream Team.
