Open Letter To Jay Leno: "Thanks for thieving my shit." by justinisntfunnyin funny

Dane may not be a thief, just a hack with unoriginal premises.

I didn't down-vote you either. Thank you for your adherence to Reddiquette.

It doesn't really bother me, I just find it amusing that people want to keep things as an echo chamber where only approved opinions can be heard ... then they go to /r/politics and bitch about FOX News. It's hilarious.

Really? You're going to try and make this an argument of semantics now? Can't you just be satisfied that I'm being down-voted for thinking against the hivemind? Just down-vote me and be done with it, like all the other redditors that cannot abide dissent.

Napoleon's quote was to illustrate how he didn't believe in luck. My use of the quote was to illustrate how Leno machinated to achieve his goals, without supporting or criticizing his tactics.

Now let it go. There is nothing to argue here.

You weren't pointing out anything, only proclaiming your problem understanding how the quote applies to situation. It seems rather straightforward to me. The quote makes no distinction between "being a nice person" or not. I don't think napoleon cared if his generals were nice people, only that they were victorious.

They're only dirty tactics if you lose.

I'm not defending his actions, merely pointing out how they resulted in success. He made a point to communicate his loyalty to the studio heads. They valued that more than Letterman. Blame NBC then, it was their decision. Leno just played the showbiz game. I think you'd be surprised just how dirty many of show businesses greatest icons were in order to succeed.

That is a .45 holster. It could be as old as WWII or as new as post Vietnam.

That's your right. But I prefer not to have preconceived opinions about complex situations involving people I do not know. I can like his work ethic but still question other decisions he makes.

He gathered intelligence and used that information to sway the executives. He won, whether you agree or not with the decision.

Moving that time slot is a big deal.

[–]sifumokung -8 points-7 points ago

Wrong. He has writers, but he still works gigs on a very regular basis. You can see him every Sunday in Hermosa Beach, working bits like a regular comic. You may not like his material, and that's fine. But he has a very strong work ethic, and that should be respected even if you don't like him.

"A great general makes his own luck. I only hire lucky generals."

What you do offstage is often just as important a what you do onstage.

I recently met Jay for the first time. I saw him once before, and he took time in between his Jaywalk segment to come over and greet a comedian he knew from years back. He was very nice, and quite generous to me when I told him I was a comedian. I sent them a link to a set I did, and if they like it I might get a spot on the Tonight Show.

Am I bothered by what went down with Conan? Fuck yes. Do I know all the details and what was said by whom about what and why? Fuck no.

I may not like the situation as it played out, but I do respect Jay because he still does stand-up every fucking Sunday. He doesn't have to. He's a rich motherfucker. But he does it to stay sharp and because he loves his craft. I'll like him for that alone. I have forgiven other performers for much worse.

Edit: Just heard back from the Tonight Show. They aren't interested in me at this time, but welcome me to submit to other shows. I don't know if I should feel dejected or grateful.

Depends on the four. I'll run from one man, and fight five ... depending on the men, and depending on my training and conviction.

Ok. This needs to be talked about. One of the reasons I left Arizona was how Mexicans were being treated. I am the son of an immigrant, I have lived overseas, and I speak three languages - one of which is Spanish.

Latinos, especially in LA have a huge fucking chip on their shoulder and, by and large, seek conflict over anything. Twice in one month I have had latino males want to start a fight with me over nothing. On a third occasion, I had another guy want to fight because he didn't like the way I spoke to him on the bus.

There is, undeniably, a huge macho factor in their culture. And it is fucking annoying.
