It’s the older generation that’s entitled, not students by Tarretin worldnews

[–]sheerheartattack 0 points1 point ago

Exactly. I mean, yes - to be a professor is no walk in the park (sometimes). But neither is it a walk in the park to be in more or less any other profession. Either everyone is entitled to tenure, or something like it, or nobody is. There's nothing special about professors.

Attractive Guy Girl Advice by awesemoin AdviceAnimals

Its not being shallow either, who wants to get involved with someone who can't even take care of themselves and is probably going to die way earlier than they should?

It's not being shallow (or maybe it is, technically), but if I'm honest, I am not thinking about a person's life expectancy when I refuse to date them because they are fat and/or ugly. So it's a bit disingenuous to say otherwise.

Shoppers of Reddit, what is something that cashiers do, while you are getting rung up or checking out, that pisses you off? by tswavesin AskReddit

[–]sheerheartattack 1 point2 points ago

I used to be a cashier, so I like to organize my groceries as they ought to be bagged.

However, they're supposed to be trained to bag your groceries properly, so even if you don't help them, that's no excuse.

My father once told me that in most offices/careers, you will find that 10% of people tend to do 90% of the work. Have you found this to be true in your workplace?s by 1ncognitoin AskReddit

[–]sheerheartattack 37 points38 points ago

If most employees do at least what is asked of them, even minimally, then it would be more or less impossible for 10% of employees to do 90% of the work.

So do a small number of people do a lot of work? Of course. Some people work more than others. But this 10/90 rule is utterly nonsensical.

going to america rage by apokakoin fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu

[–]sheerheartattack 4 points5 points ago

No. The point was to demonstrate negative stereotypes of Americans as differentiated from Europeans.

There are countless differences, stereotypical or otherwise, between Americans and Europeans. Guns is the only difference in that list that isn't (or at least shouldn't be) negative in nature.

But Firefox will clear (or not save in the first place) your private information by default. With Chrome I have to do it manually.

Oh, Belfour...

Early in the 2000-01 season, on October 20, Belfour plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge in which Belfour was subdued by police after a woman he was with became frightened by an intoxicated Belfour in a Dallas hotel room. While under arrest and being transported to the local division, he allegedly offered Dallas police officers one billion dollars for his release without charges.

The most effective way to con money is not to ask for money - at least not up front. I am in no way saying it's a scam, but to say it's not a scam because she didn't ask for money is rather foolish.

"Con" is short for "confidence trick." Accordingly, the key point of a con is to gain another person's confidence, and one of the easiest (and most effective) ways to do this is to create several "layers" between what you're asking for and what you want. Ideally, you want your mark to come up with the desired "solution" him or herself, without asking for or even hinting toward it.

Like I said, I am in no way saying we should suspect this to be a con, but this is important information to know, and one should of course always be cautious in situations like these.

Noisy sex couple become internet hit after fed-up neighbour records bedroom antics by williammaierin offbeat

[–]sheerheartattack 7 points8 points ago

You really shouldn't be doing anything at the volume of a scream for sustained periods of time in an apartment complex. That is simply rude, and I think it's silly how readily we like to chalk just about anything up to "how uncomfortable with sex our society is."

Fake shots are difficult to execute without good offensive awareness and positioning, of which Kovalchuk's are second to none. You can't just say, "Hey guys, let's just do some fake shots," or it's gonna result in a lot of turnovers in a lot of vulnerable positions where you really can't afford it. But yeah, the Devils may want to work on that in practice...

To the discussion below:

I think everyone can agree that Brodeur, Hasek, and Roy are the best goaltenders of their era, but the order is different for everyone. That is a testament to the quality of goaltending in that era: It's pretty remarkable that we can even narrow it down to three, but I think we can. But we can't narrow it down further. There are too many variables - different teams, different play styles, different everything. To even try to narrow the list down further is a fruitless effort.

Nikola Tesla Wasn't God And Thomas Edison Wasn't The Devil by viktorbirin science

What else is new.

I thought it was a prerequisite for commenting on reddit to be an expert on economics, law, politics, and every STEM field (the latter of which, of course, constitutes the master race of academic study). I mean, the way we comment, we seem to represent ourselves as such.

Nikola Tesla Wasn't God And Thomas Edison Wasn't The Devil by viktorbirin science

[–]sheerheartattack 1 point2 points ago

Tesla wasn’t an ignored god-hero. Thomas Edison wasn’t the devil. They were both brilliant, strong-willed men who helped build our modern world. They both did great things and awful things. They were both brilliantly right about some things and just as brilliantly wrong about others. They had foibles, quirks, passions, misunderstandings and moments of wonder.

I've tried, though less eloquently, to say as much during reddit's frequent bouts of Tesla idolatry and Edison aspersion, but even to suggest something so...neutral is more or less sacrilege here. When reddit has made up its mind, it has made up its mind.

This is going to sound incredibly inhumane, but have we ever considered utilizing the organs from inmates that are on death row for transplants? by panda_assassinin AskReddit

[–]sheerheartattack 6 points7 points ago

Another thing to consider: if people on death row are required to donate their organs after execution, wouldn't that encourage more death sentences for crimes to generate more organs?

Then would not the medical treatment of organ donors be inferior to that of non-organ donors? While possible, I doubt that such is on the mind of doctors/judges/juries that it would have any substantial impact. For instance, no jury is thinking, "We need more workers for understaffed public works projects," when condemning a criminal defendant.
