Observation: Out of the top 24 paid Android apps on books, half of them are on Christianity and bible reading. by okamiueruin Freethought

There's also the idea that a person with real thinking skills will realize that for every paid app out there, there is usually a free or significantly less expensive method of acquiring the same exact damn thing. Granted it may not have all the bells and whistles the paid version has, but when it comes down to it, most of the apps that you pay for do not grant you much more than freedom from the occasional advertisement.

I know how that is. I've been there myself, and its never pleasant when the truth of things comes out, because there is always someone who was left of the picture until that moment.

I do hope that everything works out, though.

While I can't fault you for having a good time...

Dude, seriously, unless this guy and his girlfriend are mutually agreed to an open relationship, or she knows he's bi/bi-curious and wants him to explore that side of him, then it's cheating. Stop looking at this from your perspective and look at it from hers.

Imagine the scene: She comes home to find the two of you, naked, pleasuring one another. To her, it appears passionate, willing, needed.

Not too pleasant of a scene, I think, if I was the girl.

Now, leaving all the factors you've addressed in your comments and posts so far, let's change one small detail: She is a guy and your boyfriend. He comes home to find you with this guy. How do you think he would react?

Here in the US, putting together some kind of work program like the one I mentioned would be impossible. Conservatives would be on board with it because it would make the "war machine" bigger. Liberals would claim that it forces minorities to serve, citing splitting up families, etc.

And then there's the question of what would happen if someone chose not to work? Well cut benefits would be the obvious answer, but imagine the screaming from groups like NAACP and ACLU. They would claim that it singles out African-Americans. They don't want a hand-out but god forbid they work for it.

I've always advocated the idea of putting those on welfare into the military or government work of some kind. There are plenty of non-combat positions available within the military structure that would give great benefits, health insurance, not to mention an actual job skill that goes beyond flipping burgers.

Now that we know homosexuality is natural and decided in the womb, shouldn't we be looking for signs in our kids from a very early age so that we can better prepare ourselves to educate and nurture? by Theophagistin Freethought

I understand what you're trying to say, but humans, sadly, are creatures of labels. We have this incessant, unrelenting need to label everything. Including ourselves.

We do this because we have an incessant desire to see that everything has its place, that everything belongs. Including ourselves. That label makes us feel like have someone or something we can relate to.

For example, I'm a bisexual technometal cybergoth. In a way, I know that I will find myself at home with like minded people who share such tastes as myself, even in its own childish way. Yes, it may be silly, but think about that feeling of belonging when you're around people of like-mind and spirit.

That being said, I do agree with you. I wish we didn't have a need for labels or words to describe what a person is. Let them simply be a person.

but I also have the common sense to know that 1) these agents have a shitty job, 2) massive public pressure, and 3) the possibility of being confronted with violence with each and every passenger.

But not the common sense to realize that just because my job sucks ( whose doesn't? ), I have massive public pressure, AND the possibility of being confronted with violence with each and every passenger does not give me the right to violate a person's dignity and freedoms just because they want to understand why the fuck we have these ridiculous rules designed by people they've never met in their entire but are expected to obey like the sheep they are.

I'm sorry, you're right, we shouldn't care about our freedoms and our dignity being violated. You're right, we should just just fall in line, and accept the little inconveniences for the sake of that illusionary security.

Without censorship, things can get terribly confused in the public mind. ~ General William Westmoreland by dreamslaughterin conspiracy

All men desire power.

To be granted that power, there must first be those subservient to that power.

Once granted that power, those given that power must maintain it.

To maintain it, they must first control.

To control, they must silence any form of dissent that would undermine that power.

Thus censorship, regardless of its intent, is born. It not only removes, but it serves to shape knowledge, to mold that knowledge in the fashion of the sculptor. It is then served to a demanding populace wanting answers. And once given, unless that populace can discern the true flavor of truth, they shall be unfortunately sated.

The OP quote listed there is the most despicable reasoning behind censorship. Things get terribly confused, indeed. Quite confusing, I'd imagine, with people learning such horrible things like truth, and asking for such embarrassing things like accountability from its leaders.

Seriously I've had enough. How can Reddit as a community do something about Fox News? by spastichabitsin politics

[–]selthera 0 points1 point ago

I"m not even really sure as how to respond to this. Are you actually suggesting that lies, misinformation, and promotion of anti-intellectualism are actually good things?

I agree that dissenting viewpoints are necessary, otherwise, if everyone agreed on everything, there'd be no need for debates. However, when you have someone deliberately infect the social thought process with outright lies and attempts at swaying the social thought process away from rational logical reasoning, you have a problem. If society is to progress, people need to be given the truth, regardless of how harsh or unsettling that truth may be, and make a decision based on how it will affect their ability to live, to feed their families, and get by in this day to day world.

Fox News does not want people doing this, making informed decisions. They prey on the ideological mindset of acting without thinking, reactionary thought processes. A perfect example of this is how they present the news. 5 minutes of actual coverage ( and that is severely edited to present a skewed visual ) and hours of opinionated commentary that tries to show opinion and hypotheticals as fact.

Sit down and watch Fox News. Watch for the moments when you hear one of their analysts throw out "Well, some people are saying.. " or "The word going around right now...". Pay careful attention to the fact they are not citing any real sources. All they are doing is pulling something that sounds like what should in the biased vein they are looking for and serving it up as fact.

/rant

Though I am curious, aside from implying that silencing this voice is on par with censorship, have you any further reasoning as to why Fox News or any news outlet should have the right to provide what amounts to Tabloid news to the population?
