Javascript-off Unfriendly, And Proud About It by Glambgin programming

You're not going to get much proggit love for this, which is a shame, because Javascript is a fundamental element of the modern Web just the same as HTML or CSS.

Advice on getting a job while having multicolored hair and piercings? by hellokittysoulreaperin AskReddit

[–]sdclibbery 0 points1 point ago

I remember a coworker/friend once got an eyebrow piercing, and was really nervous about what the boss would say. When it turned out the boss actually had nipple piercings, he stopped worrying ;-)

If a screen generated random pixels for an infinite amount of time. Would it generate every possible image. by Krasnyiin AskReddit

[–]sdclibbery 0 points1 point ago

So there's a wikipedia article about exactly this. Evidently the answer to the OP question is that all possible screens will almost surely be generated, where 'almost surely' is a well defined mathematical concept, and pretty much what you said as 'an infinitely small chance of that occurring'. Equally, you can't say its guaranteed to occur though.

[–]sdclibbery 0 points1 point ago

I'm just saying, it is not guaranteed that every possible combination of pixels would be produced.

It is inifinitely unlikely to produce exactly and only black, but then any other specific string of colors is equally unlikely (including those that contain every possible combination). The fact is, it would produce only one string of colors, and that string could perfectly well be all black (or indeed any of the other strings that don't contain every combination).

It will also generate an awful lot more images that look like poorly photoshopped comical versions of that ;-)

Not true. If its a genuinely random source, it could generate nothing but black pixels forever. That's what random means, you can't know in advance what its going to produce.

Platform of the future by jrcapain programming

If you limit yourself to "obvious" applications, then the most used applications are probably web-browsers themselves. The browsers are themselves desktop apps.

Except that probably more browsers are run on 'mobile' platforms than desktop.

April fools is coming up soon, what is the best prank you have/ someone has done to you on this day? by LetMeHerpInYourDerpin AskReddit

[–]sdclibbery 0 points1 point ago

In 1994 the UK national lottery was launched. My whole family got into it and bought lottery tickets. They are all tuned in on various TVs to watch the TV show and see the results when... I unplug the TV arial lead for the entire house, and reconnect it to my VCR, where I have secretly rented a camcorder and made a spoof April fools TV programme that I then play to them instead of the lottery results. A mixture of entertainment and annoyance ensues :-)

British Redditors, how is the American Revolution dealt with in your classrooms? by odddollar31in AskReddit

[–]sdclibbery 4 points5 points ago

It's (understandably) a big deal to you guys, but we had an empire that spanned the world. Your revolution is just one of many :-)

Some of the others are at least as interesting, if not more so; Gandhi in India for example :-)

(BTW, don't be offended, it's not often we brits get to be smug and patronising these days ;-)

I'm 36 and my partner is 56; her son is 31, so we're nearly what you're asking for. My partner's daughter's ex is older than me.

Also my Dad got married last year and my new 'step mum' is a year younger than my partner :-)

Are you ready for 3D printing? We are about to witness the greatest change in human history in a short period of a few years. by cptmcclainin technology

[–]sdclibbery 0 points1 point ago

I guess its a long term goal :-)

I don't see why pretty complicated stuff couldn't be made by a 3D printer eventually. It seems like early days yet :-)

[–]sdclibbery 0 points1 point ago

But the long term idea is that there is no more mass production. Everybody has one at home, and prints what they need, when they need it. You don't ever need to put 3D printers onto production lines, that would just be daft.
