As a massive Fitzgerald fan this trailer really left me feeling pretty underwhelmed. I hope the film isn't going to completely ignore the philosophical merits of the book over the aesthetic/Jazz Age qualities, and deliver a fairly superficial examination of the text. There's a consistent sensationalism when adaptations cover the 1920s, and I hope this film realizes that Fitzgerald posed his book as a critique- rather than a representation- of 1920s culture. However, I'm also aware of how trailers can really skew movies into looking competely different from the final product, so hopefully it'll be worth seeing. I'll be first in the queue regardless.
