There are bigger fish to fry (ahem, China, Saudi Arabia) than Cuba if you want to talk authoritarian and repressive dictatorships. And to imply that isolation has worked in any way but to punish the people of Cuba is naive and dishonest. Remember Nixon? He went to China...

I wasn't arguing that Cuba was important economically for Canada. I was trying to point out that we have strong economic ties the Harper government is happy to continue while simultaneously preaching some moralistic stand against the regime.

Typical Conservative distraction. First off, we have more than economic ties. Canada is one Cuba's biggest trading partners. THis makes the bluster and fire from the PM even more ludicrous.

Whatever the Liberal government did previously, it matters little... The fact is, that at the Summit yesterday, Harper chose to stand shoulder to shoulder with the U.S. on these issues. Wrong side of history.
