Interning in NYC this summer, any pro-tips for a fellow redditor? by GOB91in nyc

[–]sarahfrancesca 1 point2 points ago

There are a ton of free concerts and other things in the city in the summer - lots of free entertainment.

  • River to River hosts concerts and more in various locations
  • SummerStage features concerts and events in Central Park and elsewhere - not everything is free
  • There are tons of free outdoor movies too
  • Improv Everywhere usually has its MP3 experiments in the summer (though it's varied more in recent years) so keep an eye out for that by signing up for their mailing list or following them on Facebook

Also see the sidebar for cheap/free in NYC mailing lists as well as ideas for visitors.

Enjoy!

This makes me want to go to the fire museum. I might do it today. The book Forever (historical fiction) talks a lot about the great fires that happened in NYC in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Love the vid. Also love her response to this comment:

2006myangel 1 year ago: I am in tear I have tried this 14 times im throwing it away it always gets knots in it where it Dont belong HELP!!!!!

Nimibirla in reply to 2006myangel 1 year ago: yYur tear will become pearl one day. Look at the spider how many times it will fall then later you can see the nice web. Love the subject. - I win or you win like that - . you must make yourself as the master..... not the knot. Try, try again even 100 times you will win. Do one step leave it give some time then do the next one. You can do it slowly with concentration. You can win any thing. Even I can do it means you are so smart you can do better than me.

How does Renetto only have 87 videos? He's been on YouTube since, like, Day 1. I'm wondering if maybe he deleted his old vids when he moved to whatever video site it was he was trying to promote years ago.

Def did not get ASMR from this.

Pretty sure your facts were not too shabby. Just don't think any of us expected a public school superintendent to be making that far into the six figures.

The May Day Mystery isn't on his list but is my favorite because 1) it's still going on and 2) I've been tracking it since web pages looked like this: http://www.maydaymystery.org/mayday/.

If you were sleeptalking, I think you actually weren't dreaming. From what I read on EILI5 yesterday, the stage when you can sleeptalk/walk is different from REM (when you dream).

What seemingly innocent choice has had the greatest impact on your life? by sicksorryin AskReddit

The year after the Columbine shooting, I was in a play called Bang Bang You're Dead about school violence. It was being put on by our town, and a member of the school board worked with the director to coordinate rehearsals. In order to get us into our roles, the director had us each share a story about violence we've experienced at school.

Taking a step back, after Columbine, I was as intrigued as anyone about the shooters. I read all about them online - even accessed Dylan Klebold's website before it was shut down - and decided that if I ever met someone like them (bullied, violent as a result), I would befriend them and hopefully show them that the world isn't full of only bad people.

So when the director asked me about my experience with violence, I told them about a friend I'd made from day 1 of freshman year. He was always angry, rude in class, hung out with the bad kids, etc. In the one class we shared, we'd pass notes about how bad his day was, and I'd try to cheer him up. I told my director (and the rest of the room) how I had no doubt that friend had it in himself to do violence at school.

After rehearsal, the school board rep came up to me and said she needed the name of my friend. I was nervous as hell but knew I didn't have a choice. The next day, the friend wasn't in class. In fact, he never came back. I found out through mutual friends that they'd raided his locker, found drawings of the school blowing up, a hit list, and more. He was put into an alternate school and given counseling. He ended up graduating early, getting his associates degree before any of us had finished our freshman year of college, and became the manager of a local business.

When the school board rep asked for his name, I really thought I was about to ruin the kid's life. In the end, the town actually handled the situation right, and that kid's life was turned around completely.

Saw Alan Tudyk and Ben Foster on separate occasions during the same weekend in LA. Was hoping to hell I'd run into Christian Bale (long-time-fan) to too, but not luck.
