The diet should be temporary. It should transition to you learning to eat decently without eating one food in excess.

BTW, calcium kidney stones do not (and cannot) happen in the absence of calcium supersaturation in the kidneys. In other words, drinking large quantities of water for the rest of your life will basically guarantee that you will not get calcium oxalate crystals.

You hurt yourself with deadlifts before hitting BW? How the hell did you manage that?

Does the body destroy fat cells? by TheSerionin Fitness

[–]red-dit 0 points1 point ago

It's usually pretty hard to get accurate body fat estimates. You can get a rough idea by comparing to others. I am 5'9 and 78kg with practically invisible abs and about 22% bf while people at 12% have very nice abs but likely no veins showing. You can get more info from the faq. Either way, getting ripped is totally possible but losing more weight at your size might not be ideal. If I were you I would add some muscle first. If you really want to lose weight and get to ripped abs at this size, you are gonna need a pretty extreme weightloss plan and a high protein diet with a large calorie deficit. What I recommend though is to just get some muscle first because fatloss always comes with muscle loss and you probably don't want to be that weak and tiny.

You are not 6-8% if you don't have abs. At that bf% you should have veins showing in your lower abs and thighs. What is your height and weight?

People much bigger than you have cut to competition level bodybuilder physiques. It issue difficult to do while minimizing muscle loss but it has been done.

We all know to little sleep is detrimental to your workout goals but what does an excess of sleep cause? by Kumbackkidin Fitness

[–]red-dit -1 points0 points ago

It's probably the closest to being an answer to the question. Sleeping too much without a disorder doesn't really happen. People wake up and get on with life after they adjust to longer sleeping intervals.

Athletes are often able to rip apart their bodies despite the brain trying to prevent this. Does it really matter how hard your muscles can contract if that strength cannot be expressed?

Slightly less generally, it is more true if you want to lose most of the fat you have.

If you want to lose all your fat, then it is always true.

If you are super fat (40%) and want to lose a little fat (5%), then you need to lose 7.7% of your body weight.

You made a small mistake. The formula in tldr2 should be: 10% / (110% - current bf%) not 100%.

Other than that. Fantastic mathing.

The amount I bench normally has gone up 20 lbs. since i started lifting , but my max has only increased by 5 lbs. Does that make sense? How do i raise my max then? by anthony0123lolin Fitness

[–]red-dit 0 points1 point ago

If you want advice then chance are people will tell you to keep lifting in the range that is giving you gains. If you can bench your old max for 6 reps, you wont be complaining :P.

Out of curiosity, what is your max?

Long term goal for someone who doesn't care about mass or competing, but just enjoy lifting and want to develop a healthy strength? by HooDidDisin Fitness

Hey, you're the same weight as me! Among those goals, the OHP is definitely the easiest for me. I just need to add 50%.

Those are pretty sweet powerlifting goals. I must say however, that you have posted no long term goals for farting prowess.

Front squat form check please by Draethin Fitness

[–]red-dit 0 points1 point ago

You are technically right. That said, would you replace back squats with front squats in SL and consider it a good program?

confused about the difference between SS and SL by idk112345in Fitness

[–]red-dit 1 point2 points ago

5x5 gets very difficult to recover from when weights get heavy. Also, the last two sets start becoming ridiculously horrible.

Changing the program to keep the progression up is not cheating because keeping the progression up is the primary goal. The longer the linear progression lasts the faster you get strong.

Ass-to-grass is the normal term. I am not sure if ass to ground is even possible.

The thing is a Rippetoe power clean is very different from the power cleans that the Oly people do. Nearly everything will be in debate.

Obesity rate may be worse than we think: Nearly 4 in 10 adults whose BMI places them in the overweight category would be considered obese if their body fat percentage were taken into account. by mondaytuesdaywednesdin Fitness

[–]red-dit 4 points5 points ago

It really doesn't take much to get on the wrong side of BMI. A fit person (half way to genetic max of muscle and with 15ish percent fat) at my height should be 185ish which is dead center in the overweight category.

[–]red-dit 0 points1 point ago

Treadmills are often in excess of 300lbs and most of the weight is on one side (the one you face while running). Warm up by doing deadlifts of the light end and then do the heavy end. Effective weight is probably around 200-250ish but it should be better than nothing.

Got any recommendations for workouts (i'm not loving starting strength) by Wikileaklesin Fitness

[–]red-dit 0 points1 point ago

You started too heavy. The thing is your body isn't used to recovering from 3 squats a week. This is why people start very light so by the time they are pushing their max their body is at least somewhat able to recover from the load.

Your choices now are a) to just stick with 110 until you can do 3x5 with good form again, maybe even stick with it for a couple workouts. Then increase by 5 lbs for a while before going back to the 10lb increases. b) drop the weight to 90, add 10lbs each workout and get frikkin stronger. You should hit body weight in your first month.

Doesn't Wendler say that his program works just fine for beginners? Even though gains will be slower than on a linear program, Wendler argues that you should start light, increase slowly and play the long term game.

What about holding 3lbs of food? Does that put 3lbs on the scale?

The breakdown products still weigh the same as the intake until you piss or shit or sweat or breath it out (or a nuclear reaction happens). The first two dont generally happen without your knowledge and the last two do not happen very quickly.

I measure myself daily and a 5lb fluctuation once in a while does happen. My clothes usually add at about 2lbs of weight so 7lb fluctuation is something I personally have experienced. 8lbs doesn't seem out of the ordinary.

That is true, but that is not the same as what Deadoptimist was talking about, which is natural selection.
