I think the reason it's so laughable is because the wishes of the people go in so many disparate directions. It's hard to imagine a single party that could accomodate a large group of people. In fact I'd say the party system in the US is pretty much counting on this chaos.

You're right. There has to be an absurdly impractical and irreproducible aspect to the process for it to be a true Goldberg device. All due respect to OK Go, the so-called "amazing" devices are considerably less badass when they have to be filmed 40 times to get them right. Breaking nice objects and using live animals in a low-budget setting is more authentic, and much more amusing, IMHO.

Although "killing the meme" seems to be a meme itself, I hope this is the beginning of the end.
