How soon is soon?

I just got off my phone with my doc in India. I got him to at least refund me my money.

He also offered to redo the work whenever I come back. He said he didn't see much wrong in the xrays that would cause a problem within the next 4-5 years. (His reasoning for letting it be and taking care of it on my next trip over). He also said any doc over hear is going to want to redo them. Seems fishy.

With all these comments and the two dentists I saw over here, that all seems insane to me, am I wrong? I have much trouble biting into things, especially with my front two teeth.

Yes, it means shaping the tooth for crown placement. I cannot comment on good vs. bad prep.

I already have 3 root canals! It would totally suck if all my front top teeth got them to. I wouldn't have any feeling in them.

I can make the time, and after this botch job, the idea of having work done to the highest standards and best techniques is appealing. I am going to look into schools as a option, do you know offhand how large the price difference would be?

Not to defend my doc, I am already livid with him, and in regular contact with him. But if my teeth were really out of whack, wouldn't the preps have to be more aggressive?

It wasn't something I intended to do. My teeth were my always my primary area of my body where I was self-conscious. I thought about veneers and braces for a long time, but never wanted to spend so much money. I learned about the option from family when I was overseas and decided to take the plunge when I learned several members of my family got similar work done.

About $200 per tooth.

From what I remember, first he did a cleaning and got a full set of x-rays.

Then he took an impression and made a wax model of my teeth.

Then he showed me the prep he was going to do on me on the wax model, which in retrospect didn't seem as severe as I see in the x-rays. He told me I needed to get root canals on #6 and #7 because of the amount of prep needed on those would surely hit the root. Those were my two most screwed up teeth.

Then he did the prep and made a set of temporaries for a while.

After the lab came back with the teeth he showed me how they would fit on. There was some issues with the mid-line so he had them redone.

Then finally I got the final cementation and then later checkups on my bite.

This all took about 3 weeks. I don't remember him taking x-rays after the final cementation.

Dental school? That may not be a bad option financially. I live in philadelphia, so there is temple's dental school.

It may be a good option to checkout. I already have a relationship building with my local dentist, and would feel bad to bail on him, but yea, finances are a concern. I actually just came back from his office. I had to get my temp root canal filling put back in, but it turned out to be fine.

He suggested holding off on the bottom teeth for now, but reading the stuff here, I wonder if that is a good idea or not.

My Indian dentist came from NYU and visits regularly for continuing education. I had the utmost confidence in him, till now. Guess i got the short end of the stick.

My dentist in the states quoted me at $960 a tooth, is that reasonable? For just replacing the crowns at least.
