Bummer, I had the same problem but am able to login. When I followed the confirmation link all I got was a white screen. So I went to the confirmation page without the code in the URL, pasted and submitted, got that message about the wrong code. Then I went back to the index page and just logged in.

I think that with mentality like that we will soon have taxation for eyes and ears because they can be used to watch and hear stuff you didn't pay for. And in fact taxation for air, since it is a medium through which pirated content can spread! That's not necessarily as bad news as it might seem. Allow me to explain. In 2004 Microsoft promised that it will defeat spam in two years, see here. The thing is, that 8 years have passed and there's more spam than ever! So the conclusion I draw from that is when MS ventures to destroy something it actually flourishes, let's hope that this is what's going to happen in this case as well.

TCP is a lower level protocol. A TCP connection has to be established before any higher level traffic (in this case Bittorrent) can go through. The connection is established by exchanging three packets: the first one basically says "Hey dude", the second one says "Yo bro! Wanna go for some KFC?", and then the third one is a confirmation "Word!". I'm simplifying of course, you can read about it in more detail here. But the point is that once you send the first packet, you have to receive the second packet because it contains the number you have to send in the third one, but how are you going to do that if you have spoofed your address and the reply is going there. Of course you could try to guess but the probability of successful guess is about 1/2^32.

If it's not routable then the spoofed packet isn't going to reach the destination in the first place. Most modern networks wouldn't let out spoofed packets out of them.

Yes, but that doesn't mean that the packet will be delivered.

I don't see how this is going to work on a global scale without change in how current networks are managed. First of all, if TCP is used then this isn't going to work, when UDP is used then the packets are unlikely to be routed beyond even user's local network, let alone globally. But then maybe this was the technique they developed for one of the ISPs, when ISP itself is flooding the client with bullshit traffic, if that's the case then it's an annoying thing to bypass, but you can always route your traffic through VPN if you can't change ISP.
