Certs don't hurt. And 'specially not in an Industry like IT. I got a boatload of Certs myself on diff. Topics and can honestly say that i like ppl having certs above ppl not having anything but a big mouth (welcome to IT).

Certs don't mean skills, but at least proof that someone is serious about some topic; if he can connect the dots or is a awesome at his job is a differnt topic.

When you have a small team and limited amount of boxen using creative names usually is no problem since everyone will know that for e.g. "wiggum" is the mailserver .

Here we use descriptive names like you do too, getting an alert "www119 is down!" is bad, it would be worse if we had to check in a list/DNS first to see what system is behind "cleopatra" (and the #@! documentation looks more pro too ;)

I somehow doubt this will pwn many Servers, but could be a nightmare for embedded Systems like Switches, Routers and stuff alike since many of those come with default telnet enabled.
