We've tried that, didn't work. Actually they're still practicing it (as volunteer programs) in some places. They basically pay you money to not have kids (via sterilization).

I really don't understand the reason to be nice to people like this. This isn't the fucking 1800s. There is absolutely no reason to waddle along behind these backward thinking idiots and try to encourage them to change, giving them a cookie every time they say something that isn't completely bat shit insane. Seriously, why? They're offending me, my friends, my family, but they deserve some level of respect for being mildly accepting in this one example? I really fail to follow this kind of logic.

If a racist came up to me tomorrow and said "you know what, I think I might hate black people a little less today", I'm not going to congratulate the guy. I'm going to tell him to go fuck himself. A religious person telling me that they accept gay marriage, while at the same time disagreeing with the "homosexual lifestyle", is basically the same thing.

I took offense to seeing the original post as the number one link on reddit yesterday. I took offense to some chrisitans trying to tout themselves as something they're not, SIMPLY because they're having a civil discussion about gay rights (while at the same time discussing the ways in which they can save them from their sins). It was completely ridiculous.

Reddit's common sense population wouldn't downvote rational arguments just because they disagree with them. And they certainly wouldn't rummage through my profile to downvote anything I've ever said.
