as June, which is traditionally the time when Apple unveils new iPhone versions

The iPhone 4S was released in October. I think there is reason to believe that iPhones will continue to be on the October/September release schedule going forward (not June) due to the proximity to the Christmas shopping season.

but have expert witnesses at their disposal?

Expert witnesses the Supreme court? As far as I'm aware, that is not a common thing. While the supreme court occasionally has special masters for complicated cases, they do not have expert witnesses as it is an appellate court, not a trial court.

They do get amici briefs which are sometimes written by experts which they can read. But the experts do not testify in front of the supreme court justices the way experts testify in a trial court.

Any patent attorneys in the crowd? Can you tell me about what you do, and how the job opportunities are? by dishmonkeypin law

[–]norsurfit 2 points3 points ago

It's important to note that there are primarily two "types" of patent attorneys, with completely different jobs:

1) Patent Prosecutors - they write patents, and work with inventors, and the patent examiners at the Patent and Trademark Office to get their clients' patents issued. This requires an engineering degree like the one you have and requires you to pass the patent bar in addition to the regular bar..

2) Patent Litigators - they represent companies in patent infringement lawsuits (defense or plaintiff). This does not require an engineering degree (although it can be helpful in some cases), and just requires the regular bar (not the patent bar).

These two jobs are completely different, so it would pay to talk to both.
