Dear Historians of Reddit, in your opinion what is the single most seemingly insignificant event which ended up having the most wide-spread consequences? by EtTuZoidbergin AskHistorians

[–]nerga 0 points1 point ago

Ehhh I wouldn't say that it was that important or insignificant. I would argue that the war would have probably happened sooner or later, over one reason or another. I don't think it is remembered as historically insignificant either. It is taught in about every history class in the world as the spark of World war 1.

Already own EU3 Complete, how best to get Divine Wind? by sheffx0rin paradoxplaza

I believe Izual is referring to Magna Mundi the game which should be released relatively shortly. but you can get older versions around for IN. But you are right the newest versions require HTTT, and in fact there is no DW version available.

Because you bought it off of steam you have to purchase expansions on steam also to active them on steam. I would either just buy the two expansions on steam (20 USD on steam) as the Chronicles is 30 USD on steam. Another thing would be to go onto something else and buy chronicles if they are on sale there. I bought Complete on impulse, but when I upgraded, Chronicles was on sale on Steam for less than it was for just the two expansions on Impulse second time around.

[EU3] Need some tactical advice for the Knights by StreamOfThoughtin paradoxplaza

[–]nerga 0 points1 point ago

My strategy in normal is to move towards free trade, to make enough money so you can financially support way above your limit, until you see an opportunity to stab the ottomans in the back when they are at war with other people, or small minors when they break away and then move towards colonizing hordes/ holy warring through the holy land. D&T I don't usually see Ottomans do so poorly though. One of the biggest issues with Knights is actually that you have very very poor manpower. EU3 underestimated Anatolia manpower greatly, which is why in vanilla Byzantium is so strong due to their +25% manpower from resetablishing the theme system. which is to make up for that negative (But Byzantium can also easily move into mainland Europe and Italy).

My main advice is just look for opportunities to take out Muslims. Once you get a power base there you can continue holy warring against Muslims, and take Unam Sanctum to holy war against Orthodox (unless that NI was changed in D&T)

I thought this was hilarious; Scandinavia forming a barrier between me (Russia) and Europe by Hexter93in eu3

[–]nerga 0 points1 point ago

Scandinavia is always a lot more intimidating than it actually is. You will see this massive giant country, but their provinces are all so poor with such low manpower pools that they can barely do anything.

You just notice crits, blocks etc more if they happen at more critical times. You don't really notice the crits against neutrals. It is psychological. Sorry but mathematics does not have a tendency to be wrong.

It is so unlikely that it is essentially impossible. If you are worried that the powers of RNG go against you and cause you to lose a game, you probably should also be worried about falling through the floor due to quantum mechanics.

This is such a pointless post. Oh a picture of reddit in dota2! You should photoshop a picture of a kitten there too. It is equally irrelevant and could get you some karma in pics!

Chens is different because it is just a damage roll, and not a chance to happen.

I don't even know what you mean about decreasing until it won't hit. It starts with a low chance, and increases until it happens, then resets to a low chance. You should not get too high of a chance of something happening because statistics don't work that way.

My question was specifically about him in a tri lane though. Of course you can do a duo, but I was not asking about a 2-1-2 set up.

[–]nerga 0 points1 point ago

But if you are running a tri lane you would have solo heroes in the other 2 lanes. So her aura being global is irrelevant. Unless you want to have CM in mid or something.

Dota uses something called psuedo random number generation where when you have a random chance the chance is very low and then increases until it happens. For instance, if you have 20% crit (not using real numbers right now, you can calculate them if you want) you might have 1% chance on your first aa, 10% on 2nd, 25% on 3rd, 50% on 4th, 75% on 5th, 90% on 6th, until 100% on nth. This make it so you will usually get a very standard outcome, where if you have 20%, you will get it 1/5, if 30% you will get it 3/10 given an infinite number of instances, although you don't really need an infinite number to get sufficiently close that it is approximately true.

What would you want in a Steampunk RPG setting? by science_dictionin rpg

[–]nerga 0 points1 point ago

I think the main thing is the semi-futuristic feel mixed with the old timey victorian era feel.

Mechanical things should be large and crazily designed. Just having steam power car and trains and ships is one thing. But you also need things like steam powered airships that are more like ships that zeppelins, or maybe mechanical flyers instead of airplanes. Things that are futuristic and clearly not possible with steam are also amazing in steampunk. Robots, Mechanical legs, bionic limbs, are also really great additions. One of the main draws of this is that it makes it so technology is essentially magic, and although it is pervasive there is still something esoteric about it.

One thing that I always liked in steampunk was that it could also incorporate an almost renaissance era feel in combat, because both guns and swords exist and are (hopefully) viable, even if guns are much more advanced. This is cool because you can have things like duels, and swordfights. This also opens up things like cool airship battles where you board the other airship like in a pirate/sea theme but in the air! There is also nothing like a victorian era city for fights, between the dark alleyways, and the big close buildings for great rooftop fights/chases.

Should my party swap from 4e to 3.5? by Willomoin rpg

[–]nerga 1 point2 points ago

There is more freedom in 3.5 and Pathfinder due to the sheer number of options available. In 3.5 there is a prestige class for everything, and in Pathfinder there is a archetype for everything. The game rules also have things for just about everything you could need in 3.5. Sea campaigns, arctic/mountain campaigns, wars, sieges, battles, psionics, forests, deserts, mounted combat, everything.
