You're the manatee, aren't you?

Seriously, though, you can't explain something so that it becomes funny suddenly to anyone who didn't think it was funny already. It's amusing to me because it looks a lot like scenes from a certain range of science fiction movies like David Lynch's version of Dune, for example.

[36M] I have become numb to the world and my wife is at her wits end. How do I change? by artjumblein ihaveissues

You don't mention therapy, so I assume you're just taking antidepressants and are not in any ongoing course of therapy. It is often the case that antidepressants don't do the full job of lifting the fog of depression. Therapy is often necessary also.

I would strongly encourage you to find a good therapist who practices cognitive behavioral therapy, which has a proven track record. Go to every session, and do the work the therapist asks you to do.

Good luck.

The most important thing is they fixed "Do not turn of the PlayStation 3 system..." when the game is loading.

If multiple stations in your area are owned by the same company (e.g. Clear Channel or Cumulus, for example), they do coordinate the timing of their commercial blocks. Before deregulation, one company could only own up to two stations in the same metropolitan area. After deregulation, there were essentially no limits. Every major station where you live could be owned by the same company, as is the case in a lot of medium- and small-sized cities.

I have to wonder if this is the inspiration for the title of one of Charlotte Joko Beck's books.

I'm with you. I can't believe I just read almost every response in this discussion about a game I've never played and have no intention to ever play. I always figured they were rigged; I just didn't know exactly how.

I think I thought it was a white robe effect because I've only seen white robes tripping. Thanks for pointing that out! :)

This is the 3rd girlfriend I've ever had (out of the last 4 or so) who has ended up going through either my texts or emails without telling me. I would like to know if I'm the actual problem here. by GSpotAssassinin relationship_advice

Really, not.
It just became clear that my observations weren't resonating for you, which is cool, and I'd rather bail than argue endlessly and pointlessly.
I've enjoyed your writing in other subreddits and I wish you well.

I made the "mistake" of complaining about her to a female friend this past Monday.

Okay, I don't know how your relationship dynamics work -- but I can tell you that it would never occur to me to vent about my wife that way. When I've had doubts about our relationship, I've talked about it with her or with my therapist who is sworn to confidentiality. There are some conversations I will not commit to text, really.

You put "mistake" in scare quotes but I think that really was a mistake on your part. Not a terrible, horrible error -- but a mistake nonetheless.

Your ages would be helpful. If you're both 19, I'd say probably not a good idea. If you're in your late 20s or older, I'd say it's probably time to go for it.

My take on this would be that if everything else is okay, this isn't about you at all -- it's about how previous boyfriends have treated these women and damaged their trust in men in general. It's kind of like how people raised in abusive families sometimes fall into hypervigilance even when they know, intellectually, there are no threats present.

If you still like this woman and everything else is going well, you may find that continuing to be your damn fine self and not freaking out about this will cause snooping to fade as they realize emotionally you're not their ex(s).

edit: every once in a while, when I've read a thread about email or text snooping, my wife and I make a game of looking through each others' email. Hilariously boring and tedious, to both of us.

Dell's giant sexist mistake... by muzegardenin TwoXChromosomes

[–]nacreous 0 points1 point ago

You make a good point, which is that there does seem to be a difference in quality between HP's consumer and business products. The consumer-level PCs and laptops do not seem to be built to the same standard. Most of my experience has been at work, with both companies' business-class machines.

I haven't had any experience with Lenovo stuff, but they do have an excellent reputation, as did IBM's laptops before Lenovo bought that division from them.

I do have an HP consumer-grade laptop which I researched thoroughly before buying, and it seems to be built reasonably well, but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed

[–]nacreous 6 points7 points ago

I'm glad you have had a good experience with Dell. It brings me no pleasure for people to have problems. Also, I'm upvoting you for adding to the discussion.

My experience in tech support has been that it's a roll of the dice when you buy Dell. You could get a great one or a piece of junk. HP has had their duds but overall you can be more confident buying HP stuff.

Dell's giant sexist mistake... by muzegardenin TwoXChromosomes

[–]nacreous 27 points28 points ago

As a guy in the tech field, I already avoid Dell products because their durability and quality are not as good as that of many other companies. OP's story just gives me another reason to advise against Dell purchases.

From the beginning, Dell has been a company that threw the cheapest parts in a box and then sold it for a competitive price. Contrast this with, for example, HP, which from day one was an engineering company; you can tell the difference when you open the cases of products from these two companies.

I know this is somewhat off-topic, but it really frustrates me that people continue to view Dell as an admirable company when their products are so often substandard.

You know, because you struggled and had to try hard to achieve what you have achieved, you get (at least) two bonuses:

  • You're more appreciative of what you've accomplished
  • You'll be more resilient in the future when you have tough problems

This puts you way ahead of people who are "naturals" or who have had everything handed to them on a silver platter.

Good going! And I hope you continue to enjoy what you're doing.
