something is funny with either imgur or my computer. when i click on an imgur link, i get something that appears to be unrelated to the post. for example, when i click on the link for this post, i get a picture of some guy's hairy ass. it does not appear to be surfing related.

i'd hardly call the chosen pic the "worst of religion," considering there are things that are much worse.

Saw this on my Facebook wall. I'm wondering what you guys think of this quote. by partofaplan2in Christianity

[–]n0t_5hure 4 points5 points ago

to me it sounds like a bullshit quote fabricated to make christians feel good. it isn't attributed to any specific person, portrays the bible as powerful, and pretends that the printing press (or the internet) has not been invented yet.

well, it wasn't other scientists and intellectuals that sentenced galileo to death for heresy to force him to recant.

Fukushima, Radiation and Surfing by EnglishBulldogin surfing

[–]n0t_5hure 1 point2 points ago

its not radioactive decay that makes it safe, but rather the proportionally tiny amount radioactive material in a giant ocean. i'd be surprised if radiation levels were above background anywhere a more than a few miles away from fukushima. remember Chernobyl? the explosion there blew blew the reactor pressure vessel lid off, and dispersed a huge cloud of radioactive material into the atmosphere. in comparison, only a tiny amount of radioactive material escaped from fukushima. nuclear powered vessels routinely discharge radioactive coolant at sea when greater than 12 miles from land. as smcanarchy noted, you are exposed to more radiation when you fly in an airplane (there is less atmosphere above you to block out cosmic radiation).

or the conviction of a jew, muslim, mormon, or scientologist. the only way i've ever known to reliably sort fact from fiction is by credible evidence. religions rely on faith, not evidence, and accordingly there is no way to prove that they are true.

Any thoughts on this board? How is BC as a shaper? by cosineselectionin surfing

[–]n0t_5hure 1 point2 points ago

at $375, it seems a bit pricey, though certainly cheaper than brand new. i don't know who BC is, so can't help you there. this walden was re-listed a number of times at $250, and the seller just dropped the price to $200, and it will probably sell. the BC is a bigger, and cleaner board, but walden makes decent boards and i'd buy this walden for $200 before i'd pay $300, let alone $375 for the BC. just my $.02 though, as you might want the bigger board.

edit:

i should have asked what your experience level is and what you are looking for. if all you've ever ridden is a 9' longboard and are looking for more performance, the BC may or may not be what you want (i'd personally go with a thruster rather than a single fin.)

i guess it depends on what you mean by "secret spot," but you might be surprised. i know of a few spots that are not on this map that only break under certain conditions, and that is just in my neck of the woods. i'm sure that there are lots of little-known spots all over san diego county that are frequented only by locals.

[–]n0t_5hure 0 points1 point ago

it looks like a nice board. stewart longboards usually sell well, and the graphics aren't hideously ugly. strip the wax off and list it on craigslist. my guess is that it would sell somewhere around $300-$400 in san diego, give or take. ask $450-500, and see if you get any calls. if not, lower the price a little and re-list.
