Well then it depends on your attitude concerning legacies. If you don't identify with a specific culture/tradition/rite then you shouldn't feel obligated to abide by it. Maybe you feel like your identity centers on something else. Culture is a human construct, it certainly not written into your DNA, although arguably it's pretty close.

Regardless of whether God exists or doesn't, Jewish/Hebrew culture exists. Since we are a nation, like all other nations, our culture and identity exists independent of the divine.

Judaism is the spiritual center of the Jewish people, but there is a whole human/material history attached to that center.

Someone needs a geography lesson. Syria, Yemen, Iraq, Iran, Tunisia, Algeria and Morroco ain't in Europe. About a million Jews were tossed out of those countries up until the 70's (and there are still many in Morrocco and Yemen).

They're refrencing an article published by Ynet, an article that cites figures from a study done at Cambridge University.

Now i don't really like Ynet all that much, nor am I uncritical of the idea that Ashkenazim are the smartest people in the world, but it's not as if they're pulling data out of their collective asses.

Which of Iran's neighbors are out to help? Iraq - no. Afghanistan - impossible. Syria is imploding so i doubt the supply lines are open to Hezbollah. Hamas won't risk another Caste Lead.

It's not like Iran's AF can make it to Israel either. The US control's the skies over Iraq and Jordan would never let its airspace be violated. The same for Iran's Navy; The Saudis have a keen eye of the Persian Gulf so they'll alert the West, including Israel, as to any suspicious activity. Also, realistically, how would Iranian warships reach anything close to Israeli shores? The Red Sea? Nope. that's Egyptian, Saudi and Jordanian territory.

I think you're wrong about conflict with Iran. The West would be taken by surprise despite knowing it was always a possibility but then the shock would wear off and they'd throw they're weight, enthusiastic or begrudged, against Iran to see to it that Iran is dealt with. Strategically speaking the Islamic regime has been a thorn in the West's side since '79. As for Iran's foreign "freinds", I doubt Russia and China would risk even a serious diplomatic row for the likes of Iran. The West probably won't topple Ahmedinijad and the Ayatollah's, just cripple they're ability to be a power broker in the region, so Putin and the PRC don't have to worry about their oil fix since Iran will try to rebuild using the profits off those sales.

Having said that, yea Europe and Obama would be less then pleased with Israel, but the IAF's raid on Saddam's Osirak also caused a wee of a shitstorm for Israel too and that passed.
