How to Make a Chemist Cry by mitchandrein chemistry

I've never heard of that term before I read that post.

Can anyone help me figure out solubility of a certain compound called apocynin - my organic chemistry is rusty by UptownShenanigansin chemistry

[–]mitchandre 1 point2 points ago

The drug looks too non-polar you will not be able to get a significant quantity dissolved in PBS. At 15% DMSO I would expect the rat to die, but go ahead and try. Can you try enriching the rat's food with apocynin?

Edit: Wikipedia says it is soluble in ethanol. Time to get the rat drunk.

Which is encouraged in the chemistry subreddit. Did he start posting outside of that subreddit? I'll need to tell him not to do that in the future. Or was this just in /r/chemistry?

His blog is popular with us:

This is not a self-spammer just someone really new to reddit.

That's the idea, but I've never had to take it to the next level yet.

Hey r/chemistry, did you checkout the new chemistry stackexchange site yet? by bandbuygaussianin chemistry

[–]mitchandre 0 points1 point ago

What's the point of the chemistry stack exchange? Just a place to ask chemistry questions? Like Yahoo answers. Who runs it?

It seems quite active for only being in operation for a week.

Beryllium Oxide Poisoning by 18wndsygain chemistry

My undergrads once started a Beryllium fire in lab that I had to put out. Beryllium really isn't that bad, assuming you are not one of those people who are ultra-sensitive to it.

Die in a fire, Chemdraw. by opsomathin chemistry

[–]mitchandre 0 points1 point ago

I don't use chemdraw, but previously if you resized the structure and it contained text in the structure it craps the whole usefulness of having a resolution-independent vector image. Same goes for powerpoint embeds still.

Overview for Kylde, chronic non-spam reporter by antiKyldein reportthespammers

I understand, people like Kylde who have a high-positive rate of falsely identifying spammers is a problem. I don't know how that could be fixed.

I'm not pro-Klyde. But no, it isn't sufficient to simply let the community to upvote and downvote spam. A connected block of 200-300 spam accounts could destroy a smaller reddit's ecosystem, and make the new section completely unreadable for even large reddits, which is why the current system is the way it is.
