Mixing cream colours 3N and 4N? What would happen? by milkbreadin FancyFollicles

[–]milkbread[S] 0 points1 point ago

I lol'd. But yes, what I was afraid of was the hot roots, hence thinking of mixing. I usually dye my roots (from the forehead backward) and then pull the colour downwards.

I was just afraid that maybe that the 3N would dominate the 4N and wouldn't make much of a difference or something, because of the chemicals in the dye. I have a novice brain.

Thanks for your help!

Great! Now I can feel like Charlie and Frank, hanging out under the ol' bridge. I might even find a box full of denim I can take home and boil.

A local bookstore has “sold out” of a controversial marriage guide that advises Muslim men on how to beat their wives. by VeryGoodLookingManin toronto

[–]milkbread 2 points3 points ago

Sigh...I've read a similar article today and much like the other one I've read, the author of this article, Terry Davidson fails to critique the author of the book Hazrat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi, and instead blames Islam for being inherently violent. Davidson mentions the Shafia case without hesitation, even though it has nothing to do with this book. Did they find a copy of this book in the Shafia household? Then why is it being mentioned.

I am in no way condoning violence against women (hell, I am a woman!) but I think it's irresponsible for journalists to continually write about domestic violence as essential in Islam. Whenever a domestic violence issue happens to a non-Muslim person (actually, to a white person) it's called abuse and is not attributed to their culture/religion. Some may argue differently but consider the fact that many of the dominant Islamic scholars are male. Thus, they're obviously going to write things that make it possible and permissible to control women. This happens in the West, too. Consider what's happening in the states with regards to women's reproductive rights! However, this is not attributed to any religion or cultural values.

I despise the fact that Thavani uses religion as justification for violence but I also am upset that Davidson perpetuates Islamophobia in this way. Both these men should feel deeply ashamed.

DAMMIT. I had some knitting books that I put on hold and are "in transit". Now I have to put off my projects until they settle this.

Also, where are students going to go study? What about the kids with no internet access at home?

Recreational Curling in Toronto? by milkbreadin toronto

[–]milkbread[S] 0 points1 point ago

Some know how to curl, a few others have only been a few times in high school. I saw that daily deal for the club at High Park and just missed it! This may be a stupid question, but do arenas offer shoes and brooms with rental of the ice time?

Best Sushi and Indian places in GTA. Or any other great cuisines. by CanadaEh97in toronto

Casa Sushi on Danforth is by far the best IMO. The portions are massive and so cheap! Generous chunks of fish in the sushi, excellent waitstaff and great seating. It's my favorite sushi place in the city!

I want to get into sewing...don't know how approach it. by milkbreadin craftit

[–]milkbread[S] 0 points1 point ago

The first brother machine is more expensive (it's $110 here in Canada, and it doesn't make sense for me to buy off amazon.com with the crazy shipping). I'm thinking to take a class because I feel like I'd learn better with a more hands-on approach. The class I'm looking to take is this one and I think it looks pretty good, but again, I don't know since I know nothing about sewing. It's the cheapest class in my city while still having that young vibe to it.

Sewing classes in Toronto? by milkbreadin toronto

[–]milkbread[S] 0 points1 point ago

the sewing studio is so overpriced. I've done a bit of research and found that the TDSB offers sewing classes in their Learn 4 Life catalog as a general interest class. Here are the list of classes for this spring. They're offered at different locations and are the cheapest I've found at $135 for 8 classes. However, I don't know what the crowd or teachers will be like.

I was also directed to The Make Den. It seems like a cooler, hipper place to learn sewing and is also a lot cheaper than some of the more popular sewing studios. It's $220 for 6 classes and they run for 3 hours. I talked to Irene (the owner) today on the phone and she sounds really fun and cool. I'm considering this one above all the other schools for sure if I decide to take a class, even though it's a bit far for me (and not in the best neighbourhood).
