S2E8 Question: Who are the three men that can match Jamie? by Dwayne_Hooverin gameofthrones

[–]metacontent 2 points3 points ago

It counts that he lived through the battle, but not for very much because we don't know much about that fight except for how it started, and how it ended.

It started with Ned, Howland Reed, and 3 other men unnamed men, against the 3 kingsguards: Dayne, Whent, and Hightower.

The fight ended with Ned unconscious, Howland Reed as the last man standing, and everyone else dead.

"Lard has clearly won the health debate. Shortening, the synthetic substitute foisted on this country over the last century, has proven to be a much bigger health hazard because it contains trans fats" by LincolnStin Cooking

Well I've only seen it used to separate the water.

To make crispy garlic toast we use liquid butter, if we do not separate and throw away the water first then we end up with soggy bread.

I think a lot of restaurants skip that step, but then again a lot of restaurants are crap.

You can always remove the water from the butter, its called clarifying the butter, it just means to melt it then let it cool. The water will separate out and pool at the bottom. Skim the butter off the top and throw the water away.

Fine restaurants do this all the time.

Since this is the second highest comment in the thread I plan to start enforcing these rules with my votes and comments.

It will be a crusade of sorts, though I wouldn't exactly call it holy.

Good to hear, yes I will add /r/write to the list for amateur submissions.

Things which should not be permitted:

  • book sales: "Hey guys, my book is 25% off, let me know what you think!". ((These belong in /r/booksales))

  • amateur editorial/proofreading requests: "Hey guys, I'm 16 years old and I just wrote a short story, let me know what you think!" ((These belong in /r/writingworkshop or /r/write))

Things which are okay:

  • review requests for published works: "Hey guys, I just got published on amazon, free copy to anyone willing to review it"

  • articles on the art of writing: "Here is a blog post about blah blah and foo about writing."

Need some advice on making a glass display case. by metacontentin DIY

I'd be worried that randomly stacked cubes might topple and with wine glasses and such being so easily breakable I don't think that would be a great option.

But the idea made me think of something like this

I think that would probably work, and doesn't look like it would be too hard to build, so thanks! :)

What tools are necessary for wood projects? by melfooman17in DIY

[–]metacontent 0 points1 point ago*

I would recommend a compound mitre saw, a circular saw, a drill, and an orbital sander.

I would also recommend a kreg jig as a starter tool.

You can do just about anything simple with those 5 tools.

After that, the next step up would be getting a table saw, and a router, they aren't necessary for many things, but they greatly expand your possibilities.

edit: There are a lot of other little things that you will also probably need to get anything done, like a tape measure, screws, a square, lots of vices and grips, a workbench, etc, etc, but those aren't power tools so I didn't include them in the list.

Reuse your zip ties. by wilwith1lin LifeProTips

[–]metacontent 1 point2 points ago

Don't police use zip ties to restrain people sometimes?

I wonder if this technique could be used to get out of that situation?

Probably not, right? Like how stupid would the police be to use a zip tie that you could just escape from so easily...
