Fine, I'll say it: let's all tea bag our shoes.

I'll look into a board with brown switches, any suggestions? I like my dasUltimate because the keys are blank--it wife-proofs my computer.

They are really loud! Good to know about the brown switches--I assume they are quieter?

Cherry MX Blue mechanical key switches with gold contacts (clicky tactile)

The Cherry Blue is the best to type with, but not as good for gaming. I love this keyboard for all the typing I do.

Agreed. I can't stand the egotism of riotous_jocundity and those like him. I do the same activities I would do not high. Newsflash: they're just as interesting when I'm high as they are when I'm not high. EG: if I hike into the woods and go fishing for a few hours, that's just as interesting when I'm high than when I'm not.

Do you know what kind of learners your students are? by diablo3babyin education

[–]mathent 1 point2 points ago

I'm sorry, but this notion is thoroughly discredited.

From Neuroeducation – A Critical Overview of An Emerging Field by Daniel Ansari, Bert De Smedt and Roland H. Grabner, 2011:

Such lack of understanding can lead to fundamental misrepresentations on both sides. One prominent example of this are so-called ‘Neuromyths’. These are commonly held and articulated assumptions about brain function that directly contradict or are largely unsubstantiated by available evidence. For example, it is often thought that some people are ‘right-brained’ while others are ‘left-brained’ and that this has implications for the kinds of abilities that they can acquire. This assumption is directly contradicted by a vast amount of evidence showing that the brain activation during most cognitive processes involves both hemispheres and that communication between the cerebral hemispheres is a key component of neuronal processing. This neuromyth is often linked to another faulty assumption: the existence of learning styles or the notion that some individuals are better auditory learners, while others may excel if material is presented visually or kinesthetically. A recent, systematic literature review suggests that there is currently no evidence to support the notion of learning styles.

By 'makes sense' I mean 'follows the logic of the sentence'. It's a loose phrase for the well-defined rule in Standard English, if you look it up.

Now, I was mistaken because I somehow misread 'American English'. He's right, in American English, periods and commas go inside always while other punctuation follows the logic of the sentence. If you want to understand what I mean by 'follows the logic of the sentence', look it the fuck up for yourself.

I'm not in the business of learning for someone else.

[–]mathent 4 points5 points ago

But how do you know when to italicize the period? You've opened a whole new can or worms my friend.

best senior quotes ever by jimbon3rin funny

[–]mathent 0 points1 point ago

In American English, commas and periods need to be included inside the quotation marks, even if not part of the quotation itself.

Look it up, that's not necessarily the case at the end of a sentence. It depends on whether the punctuation makes sense inside of the quotes. In this case it doesn't.

And for the record, it's bullshit that the same logic doesn't apply to punctuation of quotations in the middle of the sentence.

How to discuss evolution in a job interview by schmiditin education

The other recommendations here already give the right advice on what you should do. I just want to add that you should say something along the lines of: "Evolution is the change in allele frequency over time. My job is to teach that fact, not to change religious belief."

How long until US colleges and universities suffer mass student exodus when students realize that their degrees will not secure them a job or salary requisite with their abilities? by jlksin education

[–]mathent 7 points8 points ago

The question, then, changes to: how long until US colleges and universities suffer mass student exodus when students realize thier degrees will not make them more aware, awake, and informed?

I have a BS in Mathematics. I am convinced I would have become more educated, in this sense, if I spent 4 years learning on my own instead of jumping through intellectually devoid hoops for a piece of paper that I know is meaningless. The problem is, I can only know and say that from this side of graduating.

Machinima refuses to break contract and says "You are with us forever" - lost all my respect to them by Finforsalein gaming

[–]mathent 0 points1 point ago

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear, I'm not criticizing lawyers. They are professionals and deserve to be paid for their work. I'm criticizing the system. It doesn't need to be as complex as it is, and it shouldn't be so difficult to preserve your own freedom.

Aside from that, even if I took the time to study the law for myself, which would take some time, I wouldn't be allowed to represent anyone except myself in court. Not my brother, not my sister, not my own mother. And that's bullshit.

Do you think it's fair that we have to go through an expensive medium--a lawyer--in order to have our rights respected? Is it fair that this kid can win his creative freedom back, which he deserves, but only if he can afford it?

Is that the country we wanted to establish?

Yeah, just fine! A 300lb or so kid I went to school with got on it though and it touched the grass when he "jumped".

Nice generalization there--though I'll admit that my use of the word 'most' is just as erroneous.

Have you seen the Architects and Engineers video? I don't know enough about the data to say that they are right or wrong, but I think they have a case not worthy of your ridicule.

[–]mathent 0 points1 point ago

As I said in another comment, I spent just about everyday of my teenage years on a trampoline. On that experience, I agree with what you said. If you stay in control there is very little risk of getting hurt. If you don't focus and lose control or don't pay attention, you're going to have a bad time.

[–]mathent -2 points-1 points ago

I spent just about everyday of my teenage years on a trampoline. My biggest fall was when a 200lb girl double bounced my 110lb ass 15-20' in the air. I lost my control and orientation, and smacked into the ground (about a 25' fall). It hurt, bad, but nothing serious. But you're right, the worst injuries were sustained by my brother who seemed to be a magnet to landing on the bar. Never broken anything, just some bruises.

I imagine this would make falls like my first one less dangerous, but falls like my brothers more dangerous.

Just to note: most people don't hold a conspiracy theory about 9/11. The people you're referring to just think that what was said happened couldn't possibly have happened. Speculation on why that is the case would be a conspiracy theory, but that's independent from what they're claiming.

Trust me, I thought they were nut jobs. They're really not.
