I... still don't get it. It's just from a lesson many French people took? "Brian is in the kitchen"?

Wild Turkey or Makers Mark? by HadACigarin whiskey

[–]mafoo 2 points3 points ago

Maker's Mark is kind of like the Sam Adams of bourbon. If I'm at a bar with a shitty selection, I can always count on it. But I would never be particularly excited if someone brought me some.

Why does the reddit search feature suck so hard and why can't there be an alphabetical listing of all subreddits. by ddshroomin AskReddit

Um, if all that is going down in your life, why are you wasting your time bitching about Reddit?

An r/classicfilms census: Who are you and what do you like about classic film? by grokfestin classicfilms

[–]mafoo 2 points3 points ago

  1. Male, 32, Brooklyn
  2. Classical musician/composer
  3. Write music, tour around with my chamber ensemble, waste time on Reddit...
  4. The first classic film that really gut-punched me was Vertigo. I felt like I should watch some Hitchcock, so I checked out Rear Window and liked it. Then I watched North by Northwest and really liked it, leading me to seek out Vertigo. It completely blew my mind. During the scenes where Jimmy Stewart is driving around, making endless turns I found myself getting somewhat hypnotized and dizzy and I was like, "Holy shit, Hitchcock is giving ME vertigo right now!". Then when [SPOILER] Kim Novak is pretending to be someone else with darker hair, but you're not quite sure it's her and neither is Jimmy Stewart? Damn, I just didn't realize older movies explored such bizarre emotions.
  5. Favorite classic genres are film noir and westerns. Favorite directors: Billy Wilder and Howard Hawks.
  6. "That's a good looking gun you were about to use back there, can I see it? Maybe you'd like to see mine."
  7. Sunset Boulevard. Immediately made my Top 10 of All Time List. Just a haunting, beautiful, strange film. I don't know how Wilder managed to get it made, and made so pure.
  8. I'm currently working through the noir films that John F. Seitz was the cinematographer for. Watched Sunset Boulevard and Double Indemnity. The Lost Weekend (another Wilder) is next.
  9. The dialogue. I love how you often have to (gasp!) use your brain to keep up with what people are saying.
  10. CLASSIC ACTOR/ACTRESS CRUSH: Barbara Stanwyck. Hachi machi...
