Don't want to ask where you know these sites from but I'll put that aside for the validity of your suggestion.

No need to apologise, the Ethernet cable is of specific interest to me, this can be good

Thought we could share our mixing & mastering "basic" setup by wickedandlazyin edmproduction

[–]macropsia 1 point2 points ago

  1. I always pull it down to -10, this is actually a throwback from my dayjob (post production) and means you've got all the headroom you could need
  2. Same thing here, in post pro you mix with limiting off. Normally I'll have a waves L3 on there but inactive. Then when i want to have a smug sit back & listen moment I'll put the limiter on to check if everything smooths out. I generally find that limiters will mess with my judgment of reverb & delay levels, so i'd rather set it neat and double check with a limiter just incase.
  3. This is not mine per say but i LOVE it! morgan page did an in the studio and mentioned putting everything (sometimes including vox) onto one final buss pre-master, and ducking that to the kick, i find if i do this just right it gives SO much space for the kick but you wont be able to hear the pumping as an effect (i.e. VCA/FET with fast attack & release)

What myths about health/body are people the most stubborn about holding on too, despite the lack of any evidence to support them? by BriMcCin AskReddit

The two ones that drive me crazy is 'not washing your hair when on a period' & 'getting rain on your head will make you sick'. As a westerner in Asia these drive me nuts.

That's it! I spent a whole Internet hour looking for that & had to settle with a paraphrase. I was hoping someone on reddit would know, thank you so much!

i personally have suffered the same thing about 2 years back; I never got to the caliber that you did, but ended up stopping for 2 years. I didn't truly stop, but only tinkled on something, then proceed to hate it & make nothing for another month. Looking back, my biggest regret is that i didn't push through it. I'm now in a process of still disliking everything i make to some degree, but have found out that if i finish it within a short timeframe i can still tolerate it to the end. one thing that really helped me was to switch DAW, as well as finding my weak spots in production to improve on.

There was a docco i watched that said something to always keep me going: 'you've got this great taste in what your into & because of that you can tell your own work isn't up to scratch, but you need to remember that eventually your work will catch up with your taste, it just takes a very very long time to get there, your work will eventually reflect your taste'

On a final note a good john cleese quote: ' it takes precisely the same amount of skill to be good at something, as it does to realize you're not good at it', in other words, its because you're good, you know your not good enough. idiots always think their crappy work is great & brilliant minds always thing their work isn't brilliant. make music for you, as a passion, not for other people... applause is a receipt, not a bill.

Switch to Ableton or keep using Reason 6? by jjjeahhin edmproduction

[–]macropsia 1 point2 points ago

It seems you've answered your own question here, you could very well continue to use reason as your main stay and use ableton for additional vst's/au's and audio processing that you would otherwise be unable to use with reason alone. I eventually moved out of reason because i like the ability to customize which synths and plug-ins i use to mix & produce (can't use waves in reason), but still miss a few of the features that reason offered. Do your own thing & go with whatever suits your workflow.

its done by brian 'big bass' gartner, so don't feel bad that you can't obtain that level of quality, this guy has an amazing showreel & is definitely one to read up on. http://bigbassbrian.com/ interestingly enough i'm pretty sure he's using a pair of MSP5's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBwH5KIU7ow

What studio monitors to buy? by Amiinin edmproduction

[–]macropsia 0 points1 point ago

Above all advise I've ever come across on studio monitors the single best piece of advise is to try and find a way to hear them for yourself and let your own ears be the judge. Bring some test material and hear them in the store, or better yet try and grab a pair for a week to mix with and see which ones you prefer. There are many brands and I'm sure their respective fans will chime in, but read, read & read about all your available options until your 100% sure of your decision especially if you're unable to get hold of the speaker you want.
