Yeah, the mere suggestion that a doctor will prescribe medication based on a patient insisting on a self diagnosis is laughable at best. Doctors can be held accountable if their patient is negatively effected or overdoses on a drug they prescribed.

Part of a doctors job is to know what not to prescribe, not just what to prescribe.

lol, love how no one is complaining about the dubious calls.. oh wait they weren't made against the US!

I get downmodded when I pointed out that dubious calls are quite common in soccer and actually add to the entertainment when the US loses, but since I'm not a biased asshole like most team supporters are I'm happy to see things go the US way re dubious calls.

Can I have the job of guessing whether someone is a Sunni or Shia or ex-something or atheist?

Eh? I'm pretty sure we can just ask them ;)

If they lie sooner or later their lie will be exposed.

edit: wow you really hate this idea, it really must fuck up your agenda to spread lies about Islam huh? Ah well, bummer eh? Not saying we'll bring it about, but it's definitely worth considering.

Eh? So what's preventing us from having different icons for different sects? I think that would work much better.

There are a lot of pretentious gits from islamaphobic subreddits who 'answer' questions they're not being asked and marginalizing their opinions through this method is superb.

How would gaddafi be dangerous to Israel? If he 'returns' he's not going to bring his army with him.

He hasn't comitted any serious crime or felony (that he's convicted of anyway), nor is he a fugitive.

Or whatever, I just find it funny it's 'welcome back' to people who have never set foot on that land in their entire lives, while Palestinians who were displaced by war and 'settlements' aren't given that courtesy despite actually having legitamite ties to the land.

At any rate this isn't really about the exemptions Israel has made to keep away the undesirables. It just highlights the ridiculousness of the 'right of return' law Israel has implemented. Had Gaddafi still been born but led a different life entirely he would be granted 'right of return' because his mother is Jewish. That is just plain wrong, for anyone really, especially when it invovles displacing tens of thousands of people who actually live on the land.

Does it say in the Quran that women are inferior? by milkbreadin islam

Give a rational answer/rebuttal or shut the fuck up.

You don't get to choose when I talk and when I don't ;)

Sorry :)

I'll give you a taste of how wrong you are:

It says that the so-called harm of menstruation would spread to the spouse. Hence, the quarantine.

That's not what the verse says. The correct interpretation as agreed upon by scholars (i.e. people who know what they're talking about and don't spend time reading islamaphobic websites) is tthat you shouldn't have sex with your wife if she's menstruating. In Islam saying someone who is going through a natural biological process is unclean because of that process is not an insult. If you cut your skin and bleed that's considered 'unclean', if you go to the bathroom it's 'unclean'. If you have sex you're 'unclean' afterwards. Being unclean really just means you need to perform ritual washing before prayer. In fact some people say if you sweat excessively from even labor you're in a state of impurity and should wash before prayer.

I find it hilarious that you think 'do not approach' = quarantine, but I must remind myself you don't actually know the hadith or tafsir behind the verses you're reading. You're taking them at face value then applying your own pre-concieved notions of Islam to them to interpret them.

You're kidding yourself if you think menstruation does not cause harm to a woman, many women feel pain during, it's not called 'that time of the month' for nothing ;)

How wonderful a religion Islam is for showing men what women go through when they menstruate and opening their eyes to the natural processes women must endure.

You see I'm telling you your views are wrong because they are. If you were interested in intelligent discussion you wouldn't be contradicting me without any evidence as you have kept doing up until now. I know for a fact you haven't actually tried to learn anything about the religion, you've just looked at ways you can criticize it. I know this because you're not at all addressing the true interpretations of these verses, you don't even know what they are and are relying on me to bring them up for you so you can figure out a way to argue against them here.

See how my response was so much longer than your short brief jabs? That's because explaining a verse in the quran correctly takes time. There are volumes of books written about the various verses, their interpretations and meanings. To dismiss them on face value simply exposes your own unwillingness to learn about the religion. If I were to reply to you in depth to every stupid thing you said it would take a very, very long time on my part. It's easy for you to dismiss things quickly but to truly explain how you're wrong takes so much more time and effort on my part. It would truly be worth the effort if you were open to learning about the religion instead of looking for a reason to vent.

In short, you're not worth my time =)

So saying that men are women's protector is not saying they are inferior

It is sad how much hatred you have for Islam that you think that is an indication women are inferior to men.

You share the same sorts of interpretations of Islam with the few extremists including Bin Laden. You'd get along great with him actually :)

PARLIAMENT PASSING LAWS DEMOCRATICALLY ABOUT THINGS I DISAGREE WITH!

I disagree with supression of freedom of speech, I think for any democracy to function that is a bloody obvious requirement. You're kidding yourself otherwise and what you have while technically a 'democracy' goes against what a democracy should be.

This isn't the same as passing a military spending bill or changing how bus schedules are displayed. This goes right to the heart of democracy and changes a key ingredient of it, what you have left over looks like democracy but shits all over what democracy should be.

But what do you care? You're happily repressing your own free thought for peace of mind.

The way Islamic societies and regulations are set up, is like crippling a person and telling him how good he has it, that other people have to care for him 24/7, while everyone else has to walk and work.

I don't even know how you can come to this conclusion. If she wants to go to school or get a job she has the right to do that and in fact it would be haram for her brother or husband to deny her education since attainment of education is considered a noble cause in Islam. That would be like denying her the right to learn how to swim or ride a horse/drive a car.

Societies that actively handicap women, to be self sufficient and independent, while at the same time telling them that it is actually their fault and that they need a man who has some measure of authority over her.

Again, these are things Islam is firmly against, saying otherwise does not make you right, it just means you're unwilling to let go of that which is false.

This not only has left Islamic societies behind western societies in terms of productiveness, but also in sciences.

Isn't it odd how Islamic societies regressed as they stopped following the religion? It's not surprising really, Islam encourages learning the sciences (even for women), understanding of the world, seeking equality for all things (women, men animals, even plants) and respecting nature. All things which current dictatorships which share very little in common with Islam lack.

What you abhor is religious fundamentalism and I'm with you on that front, however you confuse a country like saudi arabia with Islam and you simultaneously ignore the rich history Islam has with the sciences and social equality.

Some women might rather have total equality than being taken care off.

What does 'total equality' actually mean? Women and men are equal but different. Equality means different things for both. You have the feminist movement which demands equal rights and they have it, yet women continue to make less money than men (for a variety of reasons, including taking maternity leave, struggling to remain competitive, so on and so forth). So now they're demanding to infringe the rights of men so they can earn the same level as men, we get things like affirmative action and forcing x% of people in board positions to be women. That isn't equality, that is infringing on the rights of men to be rewarded in equal proportion to their work as women are. Unfortunately no amount of 'progressive' legislation is going to turn the female anatomy and unless women are willing to sacrifice their own identity they cannot effectively compete with men in a professional field. It's not their fault and it does not make them less to men, but giving them advantages at the cost of a mans carear progression is not equality, that's just tilting the balance against men now.

First they have to obey their father or brother and then they have to obey their husband, never being without a master, never being their own master.

Keeping in mind their father, brother or husband cannot ask them to keep away from things like education there really isn't much more to say. Women are commanded in Islam to listen to their husbands, likewise husbands are commanded to take care of their wives. Taking care of = listening to their wives, clothing them, feeding them, putting a roof over their heads, encouraging them in their pursuits, etc, etc. You don't see any of that because you have pre-concieved notions of what Islam is based on what some random foreign dictaroships are doing based on their own cultural practices which Islam almost completely eradicated when it was brought in.

Especially looking at the societies those regulations have created

Actually these societies shit all over these regulations. In Saudi Arabia it has gotten so bad that women are 'encouraged' to sign off their inheritance to their brothers (and it is definitely haram to force her or even ask her for any of her inheritance) and now that has become common place.

Don't mistake the current state of middle east based dictatorships with Islam, they tend to shit all over the true regulations Islam has set down which does in fact garantee women plenty of rights.

For a little bit more responsibility, the man gets to be master! How nice!

you really seem to be able to draw conclusions out of thin air..

[–]linkedlist 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, all she has to do is treat her brother as her master.

In Islam treating anyone as a 'master' (in the sense you're implying) is considered blasphemy, forcing someone to treat you as such is also blasphemy on your part.

At any rate her brother cannot tell her how to spend her money he cannot force her to do more work than him and he especially can't make her work to 'earn' the money she has been rightly given due to inheritance. She is free to pursue an education, get a job, whatever is possible and avilable to her.

This is considered so important in fact that if there is a case where her brother doesn't take proper care of her he will lose quite a large amount of the inheritance which will then be spent on maintiang her standard of living. How that system works would vary though depending on how the state chooses to enforce that particular law.

You're just trying too hard to find fault here.

Yeah the most necessary biological function of women is a disease according to the Qu'ran, making women filthy. Real classy

eh, it doesn't say women are diseased, only that when they're menstruating they will have symptoms of illness.

Being sick is a natural part of life, and believe it or not some illnesses effect men and some effect women while some effect both.

Yes one can smell R E S P E C T in this one

..umm, it's basically saying you can have sex with your wife and that there's no restrictions on the manner in which sex is performed. That's disprespect how exactly?

Yeigh praise Allah for picking a male prophet bringing men the good message that they are better than women.

There's a lot of good reasoning for that. A divorced woman might be pregnant, so she shouldn't marry straight away since paternity issues might come up.

And that they shouldn't hide if they're pregnant, fair enough I'd say.

Their husbands should consider taking them back even after a divorce if she wants reconciliation. How is that exactly a lack of respect that the Quran is commanding men to give their divorced wives (even if she was the one to choose divorce) a second chance?

And they (women) have rights similar to those (of men) over them in kindness, and men are a degree above them. Allah is Mighty, Wise.

This is actually one of the favourite misrepresentations by you islamaphobes. In Islam the obligation of taking care of someone lies on men, hence 'a degree above them'.

I know you'll want to argue how women get less inheritance but you would HATE to know the truth is that even though a sister gets less inheritance than her brother her brother is required to put the girl in a house and live in a manner that is at least as good as his and he has no right to ask for any money in return.

So really women get a pretty good deal, free room and board + spending money ;)

Not to mention how you are allowed to treat your female slaves.

Yeah no ;) But hey, what the fuck do I know? I'm only Muslim and I clearly hate women!

Grasping at straws much there darling? =)

I told her who is she to "critique"? Then she said that she knows more than most muslims about Islam and pulled the classic "Some of my best friends are muslims!" line.

Yeah umm, that pretty much blows every ounce of credibility she could possibly have. Those are the two most popular lines of thought amongst Islamaphobes.

Her experience amounts to little more than reading a bunch of stuff on the internet (generally stuff pulled out of the quran, removed from context, misinterpreted and followed by a long rant about how bad muslims are because of this verse).
