I moved from NYC myself just 3 months ago! If you don't want to have a car, live in downtown SLC or inside SLC. Outside of SLC, try to be near the TRAX line. Within the city, you get free TRAX. Apartments here are super cheap, for $700, you get a super nice 1 bedroom apartment. Check out the Northgate. I used apartments.com to look at some really well priced places.

Buying alcohol: Not really an issue. Go to a state owned liquor store and purchase your booze. They don't let people under 21 enter the establishment though.

Chase is all over the place. Walgreens is like the only Duane Reade here that has Chase ATMs as well.

What you pay yourselves is up to you. You should manage your money the best you can, especially if you're growing the company. You may want to pay yourselves 75/k each, but it might be better to guage how much the company will need and THEN decide on the salary that you want.

They made the classes longer, split a 2 semester (physics I and II) into 3 semesters.

Nothing noticeable on the student end. They were phasing out humanities and turning them into 3 credit courses instead of 4 credit courses. They changed the curriculum so a few of us had to suffer through bad management of that. Physics was also changed significantly, not that I had to deal with it, but others did and it was apparently very different from the way it used to be ran.

Mine does not Party Join! It says, "You created a party join." and no party joins. In fact, nothing happens afterwards. In fact, no one gets invites when I invite my team to a server.

I have to F5 to get the party tab to even show up after I invite someone to a party. When a friend joins a game, the COM CENTER does not update so I can join them. When I invite a friend, they get no response or UI updates to inform them of a party.

From what I'm telling you now, DO NOT bother with 1and1.

Now, for everyone else who are doing startups on the net: Do NOT used a shared host. Hostgator, hostmonster, 1and1, dreamhost, etc are NOT viable hosts.

If you're serious about a startup, drop a few bucks and get a dedicated host. Amazon offers free EC2 hosting for a year. Google App Engine is free until you get big. There are lots of alternatives out there, do not go with shared hosting. Shared hosting means only 1 thing: You don't care enough about your startup to bother with serious shit.

In the case that you get successful on a shared host, you welcome yourself to various security holes and shitty service. Don't forget the rare case when your site gets so many hits, your "ulimited" plan suddenly gets shut down and people are shown ads (See GoDaddy and HostGator).

Do yourself a favor, get a dedicated host. It's a little more work and a little more money, but it's peace of mind and gives you more of a reason to buckle down and be serious.

It's not truly realtime. It's actually quite frustrating when a friend joins a game and I have to F5 the browser just to join him. The browser information is almost always wrong, when searching for a partially empty 1-5 server, even the servers that show up are full. Browser based is a nice idea, but you cannot have real time push without heavily modifying the protocol - pseudorealtime for a game like this is unacceptable.

Class of 2005 here. Came in when Reidy took over. All good perks were removed within the first year. It got progressively worse. Also interesting story: She used to call herself Dr Reidy because she had an honorary degree.

There are plenty of free options. Amazon AWS offers a free virtual server for a year for businesses to try them out. Google App Engine offers free usage until you're ready to grow. You can always just host it off your local server if you really wanted to save money. If you're launching and want users, you should do the right thing and use a non-shared hosting provider, not just for yourself, but for your users. (You == anyone who wants hosting a website, not you specifically).

Startups shouldn't use shared hosting, in my opinion. I've never had a good result from using a shared host with any of my projects. There are too many issues that come with it, and don't forget those rare cases when you're sharing with a domain that is under attack for whatever reason (DDOS or hack attempt) and due to their coding standards, your data is now compromised. Startups, actually anyone who wants to host a website, should not use shared hosting.

I agree, so the question is, why would I use Twitter for that use case instead of e-mailing all three of them using Gmail or another UI? I could also start a chatroom in Gtalk or AIM. Why must I use Twitter for these conversations?

I'm a little confused - why is real-time multiple-person Twitter conversation a problem? Why can't I just have a private group chat with the people I want? Why can't I just use a third party, non-Twitter service to do the exact same thing without having the need to integrate with a system that isn't meant for the problem you mentioned?
