Betty Grable, definitely. Classic 40s, WWII stuff. It was more subtle sexuality back then, at least in comparison to more recent pinups.

I saw a post about best book endings, now let's see the very worst. by viruses_winin AskReddit

[–]laclairefontaine 1 point2 points ago

Oh man, I had to read A Separate Peace for my sophomore year of high school. I hated that book. Seriously, did he push Finny off the damn tree branch or not?!

My vote goes in for Twilight/Breaking Dawn. It was a horrifyingly horrible book series in the first place, and the ending just made it even the fuck worse. So let's see, a vampire baby that's named Renesmee after her mom and mother-in-law in the worst-possible combination of names ever, an almost full-out vampire fight at the end of the book with like hundreds of crazy vampires that are all out for blood, and then absolutely nothing. I was all excited too, thinking that maybe something was going to fucking happen, but nope, everyone goes off completely happy and all is well in paradise, and they don't kill Renesmee. I was honestly hoping they would, just to spice up the boring plotline for the first time in the entire series.

Oh, and then everyone lives happily ever after.

I gagged.

I gave birth to a blonde Asian & I'm realizing that I doomed her to a lifetime of answering the question "What are you?" Any multiethnic/biracial Redditors or parents of mixed kids care to share your genetic swirl? by KayaXialiin AskReddit

[–]laclairefontaine 1 point2 points ago

Oh, I had the same eyes when I was little! I'm half Chinese and half white, that being a mix mainly of Italian, Irish, English, and Scandinavian. I've gotten the "what are you?" question more times than I can count, and sometimes some less-than-subtle stares. People actually guess about it, and I've had everything from Spanish to Samoan (I had to look that one up on a map at the time) to Filipino.

I don't think anyone's really asked me about it with bad intent or any negativity, but the first time someone asked me directly about it, I was about twelve and had no idea what the woman was talking about. She asked if I was a mix, and I had no clue what she meant. She had to clarify her question, and my lack of understanding for a good two minutes was a tad uncomfortable. It really isn't upsetting or anything though. It just gets a little tedious, answering the same question so many times. The people that ask are typically just curious and don't mean anything bad. When I was a little girl, they'd ask because they wanted to tell my mother that they thought I was an adorable combination and all that, which is a huge compliment to me.

From my experience though, the legitimately racist people (though mercifully I haven't had to deal with too many) just tend to jump to conclusions and condemn me from the start for looking different in the first place.

It's been a long week, Reddit. What are some small things that never fail to cheer you up? by chairmanxiaoin AskReddit

[–]laclairefontaine 0 points1 point ago

Getting sweet texts from people. I have a friend that once in a while just randomly texts me, "You're beautiful" and "I love you" and it never fails to make me feel better no matter how pissed off I am.

Also, in no particular order, chocolate, music, rain, cookies, and macaroni and cheese.

Especially macaroni and cheese. Seriously, who doesn't love it? With a hot bowl of tomato soup...it's fucking perfect.

Forget all the great concerts you've been to, what is the WORST concert you've seen? by scadsofemotionin AskReddit

[–]laclairefontaine 0 points1 point ago

I came here to say ATL, too. See, I like a handful of their songs, and got dragged along to one of their concerts last summer by a couple friends that liked them. Almost completely pre-teen/early teen girl crowd, screaming their lungs out and trying to mosh (we were in standing room.) The band was getting the tech guys to spell "ass" on the screen behind them and the girls basically went crazy ಠ_ಠ It was very attractive.

What is the most soul crushing thing you've ever had to do? by TinyDancer1221in AskReddit

[–]laclairefontaine 0 points1 point ago

Every time I walked out of the hospital room when my grandfather was in the hospital, when I was thirteen. He had a stroke or something, we never really found out what, and had irreversible brain damage. It was almost impossible to understand him most of the time, and he couldn't walk or move properly. It was like nonsensical sounds and just hearing it hurt so badly. When my mother and I went to visit him, he would see us and sob. He reached out his hands to us and thought that my mom (his daughter-in-law) was his mother. He clutched her hands and called out, "Mama!" to her. He'd hang on to my hands and wouldn't let go and when I'd try to move, he would scream, "No!" It was like being with a baby. It felt so awful every time, especially since he was the only family I was close to beyond my immediate relatives.

Around New Years, a few years back, before he died, I was in the hospice-of-sorts that they had him in and I was playing the piano for him while he sat in the wheelchair and watched. It was the last time he ever heard me play, and I think he thought it was beautiful. He made some noise and for a moment, I thought he was crying.

Damn, I miss him.

[MEME] How I felt after I finished my 3 AP essays with 30 minutes to spare (x-post from r/adviceanimals) by graydragon95in teenagers

[–]laclairefontaine 1 point2 points ago*

Haven't heard anything yet. Oh my God, the look on the proctor's face. The kid, after they collect the exam books, goes, "Wait, oh shit, did we have to write those in pen?!" The woman's expression, over the course of about two seconds, went from confusion to disbelief to complete horror when she realized he was serious. There was a gasp and then complete, painful silence as literally EVERYBODY turned around and stared at him.

She freaked out a bit, and I think she said she was going to try to find out if he could write over the pencil with a pen and not change the essays, like physically overwrite it, but I don't think they'll let him. College Board would probably call it cheating and then his scores'll be cancelled and stuff and there'd be a new landmark court case on every APUSH exam, like, College Board v. Board of Education for letting the kid copy over his essays.

Either way, if they don't let him do anything, the most he can get is pretty much a 1. I know him and he's obviously pretty smart, but he's got the slacker thing going and he probably didn't get more than like 55 out of 80 of the MC correct, but hey, I could be wrong about that...either way, since essays are half the grade, if they end up counting them as unscorable, he's basically fucked, no matter what he gets on the MC =[

[–]laclairefontaine 1 point2 points ago

Oh man, this is only semi-related, but I took the APUSH exam on Friday and one kid in my testing room somehow didn't hear the proctor say (at least three times) that we had to write the essays in pen.

He wrote them in pencil.

What movie scenes have captivated you to the point where you forget you're watching a movie? by Wat_Da_Heoin AskReddit

[–]laclairefontaine 1 point2 points ago

The entire end of Requiem For A Dream, where Sara Goldfarb is in the hospital for the diet pills she got addicted to because she dreamed of being on a TV game show, and when her son is in a prison hospital with his arm amputated. It's disturbing but it's impossible to look away. Not to mention that "Lux Aeterna" is super-eerie and beautiful.

On a lighter note, the lesbian sex scene between Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman in Black Swan gets me every time.

What would happen if the southern states of America seceded (assuming no armed conflict occured)? by PFunkusin AskReddit

[–]laclairefontaine 0 points1 point ago

Erm, they...they DID secede. They actually formed their own separate country, too, until they lost the Civil War and were reinstated into the Union. Do you mean what would happen if they stayed seceded back in the 1800s, or if they were to secede now?

i flipped off a cop, and now i might get in trouble for it, what should i do?? by spuria1in AskReddit

[–]laclairefontaine 0 points1 point ago

If he gets mad, just go with it. Apologize to him and all that jazz, and just watch what you do in the future. If he tries to make an example of you, honestly the best you can do is just tolerate it. If he makes you run, seriously I'd say just do it. Your teammates might give you shit for it, but if you refuse to do it, your coach will just get more pissed off and the problem will just get worse and worse, you might get kicked off the team, etc. At least if you just take it and run, your teammates (if they laugh at all) will forget about it eventually and your coach will calm down. Otherwise, you could get thrown off the team, get in trouble with the administration, and all sorts of other crap. Really the most you can do is just let it cool off and take what you get from your coach.

Also, just curious, is this a high school team? At my school, wrestling's a winter sport.

i flipped off a cop, and now i might get in trouble for it, what should i do?? by spuria1in AskReddit

[–]laclairefontaine 0 points1 point ago

I have no fucking clue if you're being sarcastic or not since it doesn't translate well via interwebz, but okay. You're welcome! If your coach is just yells at you but doesn't take any action, just take it like a man. Getting yelled at sucks, but retaliating would probably just make it even worse and might get the school admins involved, and you'll be in even deeper shit. If he yells, just say you're sorry and all that stuff and try to just play it off and not make it a bigger issue. He'd probably let it go/forget about it faster that way.

Why are black people, generally speaking, in such fantastic physical shape? by capnthermostatin AskReddit

[–]laclairefontaine 0 points1 point ago

I had a history teacher tell my class it was possibly due to survival of the fittest when blacks were coming to the US from Africa aboard slave ships, and when they were sold into slavery on plantations. I'm not sure how true it is, but it's an interesting theory.
