How many calories do we burn when in deep thought? by plasticplanin askscience

[–]kryptobs2000 -3 points-2 points ago

I've heard before that chess players in a tournament burn 6k calories a day, but I'm not sure whether that's actually true or just a novel myth.

If we should use antibiotics sparingly, why is daily antiseptic mouthwash OK? by sarcasm_or_empathyin askscience

An antiseptic is not an antibiotic. Alcohol is a common antiseptic, bacteria are not going to build up and immunity to alcohol.

"Why Linux Sucks" - 2012 edition by acurriein linux

[–]kryptobs2000 1 point2 points ago

My first distro when I was 16/17 (now 25) was slackware and it took me 2 days to see a (gui) login screen, 7 days until I felt comfortable and could use it as a windows replacement. In retrospect I should have started with something more newb friendly but I didn't know any better at the time. I'm pretty tech savy, especially now, but really I think the only thing possibly special about myself in this case is simply that I took it for what it was and didn't get frustrated or give up; I think you may be exagerating a tad bit. I also remember installing Ubuntu about 5yr ago and it completely working right out of the box with a simple 7(?) step install 'wizard.'

I doubt you can turn 1 into 24, maybe 10, but that would be stretching it ime. I never do more than 1:7 and normally 1:3, but I'll then do 1:2/3 again and transfer it to some hpoo. If you stretch them too then they eventually run out of energy and stop growing.

Water sanitation workers: Do you drink tap water? by unravelledin AskReddit

[–]kryptobs2000 -1 points0 points ago

I didn't know it was that bad, it seriously will not rain for 6 months there? In Va we call it a drought if it doesn't rain for 2-3 weeks, but if it rained even once a month and you could collect all the rain water hitting the roof I'd think tha'd be enough, but if it's really that bad then yah, that won't work.

Why not setup a rain barrel system? I'd imagine you could collect all the drinking/cooking water you'd need even in a hot place like texas for at most a few hundred bucks.

Is there a good alternative to Adobe when it comes to photoshop and dreamweaver? by BoobiesareOKin software

[–]kryptobs2000 2 points3 points ago

I'm not a professional designer but between gimp and inkscape it's not worth rebooting into windows for me anymore just to use photoshop. Some things may be a pita and take 20 steps instead of 3 but there's nothing I can't imagine getting done at this point.

[–]kryptobs2000 0 points1 point ago

This is it, lsd, mushrooms, mescaline/tryps and phen's if you will, all take about 7 days for your tolerance to go down. It pretty much doubles sometimes a just a few hours after you take it. Ime it seems doubled for about 3 or 4 days and then steadily drops down over another few days after that.

I'm not sure what you're trying to get at. If meat and plants grew separately then sure, it's more energy dense, but when you consider we have to grow the food to feed to our livestock then I don't see how it can be argued it's more energy efficient. You can grow a field of potatoes or grow a field of corn to feed to a stable of cows and you'll use more land for the later.

It's likely filtering dns requests which I'm guessing are not configured to go through the proxy. If you're using firefox for instance you change network.proxy.socks_remote_dns to true in about.config or else it will not send dns requests through the proxy; I'm assuming you're using a socks proxy since you mentioned tor.

Reddits torrent client of choice? by 0xFFFFFFin software

[–]kryptobs2000 3 points4 points ago

On linux for transmission (I think utorrent on windows there might be an equivalent) there is an add to transmission right click menu option as an add on, I think it's aptly named 'add to transmission' which works pretty well. The one problem I have with it is it doesn't work correctly with private trackers.

Western Union is actually pretty secure. There's probably hundreds of locations within a drivable area and you don't have to provide an ID or real credentials sending or recieving, the only thing you have to worry about is possibly getting on camera and that's likely not enough to identify you with alone.

Is there a difference between eating a pill first then eating food immediately after, as apposed to vice versa? by rdssassinin askscience

[–]kryptobs2000 0 points1 point ago

Eating a pill near a meal likely has the same effect as right after or with the meal. Otherwise it's as the other poster said, it depends on the pill and the food.

Fwiw in the days of the Roman empire it was considered the norm to be bisexual so while there may be a genetic component it is likely also a choice.

Why can you eat cookie dough when it's in ice cream, but not raw from a package? by The_D0PEST_D0PEin askscience

[–]kryptobs2000 2 points3 points ago

The other posts are right about the cookie dough, but on an aside you could eat 2 raw eggs everyday for the rest of your life and most likely not get salmonella, it's well overrated. On top of that salmonella is hardly a killer, in the chance that you do get it it probably wouldn't be worse than a moderate cold. Can you die from it? Of course, but it probably won't be more than a minor nuesance unless you're old and/or in bad health.

DAE sweat for no apparent reason? by Ernest_P_Worrellin DoesAnybodyElse

[–]kryptobs2000 0 points1 point ago

I missed french fries, but besides that peppers and tomatoes were the worst for me. These days caffiene doesn't have a significant effect on me either now that my hyperhidrosis has cleared up. I actually didn't stop caffiene for the most part anyhow thinking that the more I sweat the faster the solanine will get out of my body.

One thing I didn't mention is my sweating tended to get better at night, do you find this true for yourself as well? Even at it's worst I'd be surprised if I would have an issue at 1am. As it got better this was the first thing I noticed, it seemed just as bad during the day but I'd stop sweating sooner in the evening. Normally it'd cease around 10-11 when it was bad but soon enough it was between 7 and 9 and not around the time it'd be reaching 5 ot 6 I stopped all together. It was hard for me not knowing if this would work, there's only 2 semi credible sources I could find and those were given to me by another redditor, can't even find them on google. I'm still not 100% certain it's not a placebo/psychological, but either way the problem I dealth with for roughly 10yr is now gone.

Fwiw you could probably still eat potatoes when all is said and done, just in limited quantity combined with the other nightshades. Potatoes are what I cared about the least and when googling solanine is the most commonly mentioned culprit. Oh and I did not know for so long, but sweet potatoes are not even a nightshade so you can eat those, and yucca root is a great potato substitute too if you're really wanting a close replacement, imo even tastier.

DAE have a tingly feeling in your head when you are surprised or pleasured? by mattslothin DoesAnybodyElse

[–]kryptobs2000 1 point2 points ago

Wow I finally know what this is! One day after an intense lsd/mescaline trip I suddenly was able to do this at will, very intensly for the first month too. It was a little scary but felt amazing, felt like a braingasm that would go downwards and out through my arms. It wasn't triggered by anything as you describe, I could just do it whenever I want and it would 'recharge' after 10-20 seconds getting weaker if I did it too often. It was extremely novel and felt great at first but over the years became less so to the point where I can hardly do it now. Thanks for sharing, I gave up on figuring this out long ago!
