I'm the guy on the left. How's my first suit? by Darius_Millsin malefashionadvice

[–]kodiakus 2 points3 points ago

Wearing a jacket. If you're not wearing a suit, you're not wearing a suit jacket. The differences people always talk about between sports jackets and two-button suit jackets are much too muddled and interchangeable to really take seriously.

My Life in Child Porn by philosonyin Foodforthought

And 13 year olds having sex with eachother should feel victimized by eachother? Your definition of adult is entirely culturally defined, biological adult-hood and readiness has much different parameters which aren't so charged with emotion.

What, really, is the difference between a consensual and voluntary 17 year old and 18 year old taking part in a pornographic film?

The stigma associated with UFOs is not justified. by fetchthelongweightin TheAgora

There was no exodus, though. There is absolutely no archaeological evidence to support that the Jews came from Egypt and stole Canaan from the Canaanites. Most evidence suggests they were the natives to begin with.

I prefer real rings. I have a ringtone of the BSG's telephones. I can post them up when I get home in a week...

ELI5: If China is communist, how do things like this exist there? (Not posting as a criticism but as a legitimate question) by wherecaniwatchin DebateaCommunist

[–]kodiakus 2 points3 points ago

Now that we agree on that... is all hierarchy a bad thing, though? I'd argue no, and that only the institutionalization of hierarchy becomes destructive.

Then why not call it what it is? Social stratification and institutionalized hierarchy?

Salon: "TED is a massive, money-soaked orgy of self-congratulatory futurism" by boop-boop-a-doopin technology

[–]kodiakus 11 points12 points ago

And what's wrong with techno-utopianism, hm? Go ahead and roll in the squalor that is modern and pre-industrial life, Salon. I'll gladly look towards technological and knowledge based solutions and improvements for the near future. If you aren't striving for a utopia, you're not thinking big enough.

You can't not have a state. A state is made up of the people being governed and the land they live on, just as much as it is made up of the government. States are more significant than regime changes and economic models; to abolish the state would require abolishment of people.

BioWare lays off staff on Star Wars: The Old Republic, EA to shift employees by Tolkotoin gamernews

[–]kodiakus 5 points6 points ago

People begged for a KoTOR MMO for years; myself and a minority of others kept telling them, "no no no! You will get a shitty WoW clone with a Bioware paintjob". Then they went off and trashed what would have been an amazing singleplayer trilogy... by concluding it with an MMO. What?

Emotionally intelligent people are less good at spotting liars by betcaroin softscience

Emotionally unintelligent people rate themselves as emotionally intelligent, and then fail at detecting liars when compared to those who are actually emotionally intelligent.

Would the introduction of the anti-piracy technology used in Diablo III mean the end of all game piracy? by tcostartin truegaming

[–]kodiakus 2 points3 points ago

No, it has single-player modes which do not require network connections. A singleplayer storyline is a stripped feature, though.

Would the introduction of the anti-piracy technology used in Diablo III mean the end of all game piracy? by tcostartin truegaming

[–]kodiakus 0 points1 point ago

Sequels are compared to their predecessors. It's a stripped feature. If every corporation had absolute power to dictate the way a product should be seen, commentary would be meaningless.

[–]kodiakus 2 points3 points ago

They're less value additions, and more value substitutions. Substitutions for a stripped feature, all of which could be integrated into the game if it had been made with a proper single-player mode anyway.

Your armholes are too low. Tailoring isn't any good if you don't ask for the right thing. Throwing money at the problem doesn't fix it if you don't know quite what to ask for.
