I still can't believe I just noticed this. [spoilers] by drumcowskiin Portal

[–]kjmitch 0 points1 point ago

Bonus info: the beveled edges of the storage cubes were much more pronounced in the first Portal whereas the cubes in Portal 2 have sharper edges. Rather than just retcon the newer design like with the rest of the elements, they rendered the ending with the older "rounded" cube model that you don't see anywhere else in this second game.

It has to be the exact same cube, and this fact was what proved it for me.

How to turn Democrats and Republicans into Americans by Pilebsa[Freethinker]in Freethought

Some great thoughts in this article. I really like the idea of open primaries that don't keep anyone from the statewide/national voter pool consideration, and hate that the dominant political party would likely resist most of the other changes suggested.

Why I am Creating a Programming Language by TheCorehin programming

My understanding is that if it doesn't exist in Lisp, you can put it in.

Exactly. Experience gained is the reason every programmer should reinvent the wheel like this, and in other areas as well. Just understand that the project is over once you've learned it all, and your clone of a popular product isn't intended to take its market share away.

C is a high-level language with features that address low-level issues like pointer arithmetic, so it's often called the low-level language of high-level languages, but I would say most really do understand the difference parallels the abstraction from the hardware.

Lisp is very interesting; I've looked into it a good amount as a branch of my preparation for a functional programming course I'm in this fall. It's a bit tough to wrap my head around but I love how it fits with discrete structures so damn well.

By all means, implement one, if just for the experience. But certainly do these things before deciding to use your implementation in any practical sense, let alone as a replacement for an existing language.

The fire suppression accidentally went off and submerged planes in foam. by [deleted]in pics

[–]kjmitch 7 points8 points ago

Correct me if I'm wrong: the reason why the foam spilled out so far is because, if the doors had been closed, the foam would have filled the entire air space inside the hangar, right?

[–]kjmitch 1 point2 points ago*

I can confirm that they have never ever ever said this in the lines of the show, or even said anything to hint at where Greendale is or is not. The only thing we'd had to go on forever was the overt mention on the GCC website, which other places like the Wikipedia article then referenced at one point, but that certainly doesn't count as being mentioned on the show.

Several pointers in phone numbers having area codes of 303 (where you'd have to pause to see it, like on Jeff's driver's license or Abed's father's emergency contact information) are all the on-screen mentions that I'm aware of before the flag in the office in this episode. This is finally a pretty big clue, though it still wasn't at all a part of the dialog.

I think you mean the Dreamatorium episode, "Virtual Systems Analysis", right?

Keep in mind, it's the first obvious reference actually seen in the show that admits they are in CO. This would be news to even the non-casual fan of the show.
