Thanks for the clarification on both parts. It's important people understand the differences. Rather than the typical responses

Right, thanks for the dulled down explanation.

I'm planning on making some contributions to the projects and attempting to gain some experience using it. I feel like it would really be beneficial.

Just trying to understand, forgive me for my ignorance.

Thanks! Well, I figured it would be a big problem if I charged for the application. So I just made it free and put admob ads in it.

I figured if it was a huge problem, they'd just take it off the market. :-/

What kind of app do we want to write? by member68in RedditAndroidDev

Same, I think it would be better for me in a few weeks for now but it'd be awesome to contribute to this.

Interesting, yeah I can definitely see it playing out within the community here like that. I suppose giving it some thought, it could work out better than expected.

It'd be cool to get involved into something like this together and gain some experience working in that sort of environment.

Okay, yeah this was something I was confused about a bit getting that all setup with some kind of VCS to commit too and such. I wasn't sure if that was something that would be compatible with an Android app project.

Thanks for the insight! Yeah, I mean I definitely need to get in there and help out. I would love to give it a shot and help out a community android app. Would be some great experience

Thanks for the links! :)

Right, I suppose there would have to be a lot of coordination in combination with git and such. I've just never had experience in contributing to an open source project so thinking how it would work all appropriately just confuses me.

I see the android eclipse projects when you create them and they always seem dead set inside eclipse.

I haven't really contributed either to an open source project. But I just can't comprehend how it all works appropriately coming from just a sole developer working on my own computer/project.

I know Git would probably be best, it just still confuses me how it would work with an Android java project rather than a huge project that's already been in development like firefox or linux distros in general.

But see, how do you easily develop an application with a broad number of people over the internet? Where / how would you have different revisions and edits going on at the same time? I wonder the same thing even about a small number of people like 3-4. It confuses me since I've always just worked with my own eclipse projects on my own computer.

I'm genuinely interested in what people think, not trying to criticize.

Edit: Wasn't looking for a smart ass answer. Thanks to those who actually answered appropriately

Here's my SSD layout, any idea on how to reclaim some of those mystery partitions? (Dual boot Ubuntu and ChromeOS) by kevanin Ubuntu

[–]kentoe 0 points1 point ago

No problem! I'm assuming you got a CR-48 or went to Google I/O this past summer?

If you wanted to totally get rid of all the partitions you could also consider flashing a new bios called Luigi which would allow for taking complete control over everything and not have to skirt around chrome OS.

I feel the same way about chrome os and keeping it. I ended up just keeping it in the background and putting the most minimal amount of space left over for it. I haven't used chrome os at all though since I put ubuntu on it. Best decision ever putting ubuntu on there.

[–]kentoe 0 points1 point ago

These are some great suggestions. But unfortunately for chromebooks, the current bios doesn't allow for "booting from USB" or any type of normal computer functionality of booting type things. Unless you were to override the bios with something different like the Luigi bios.

Just giving you some information on em, not exactly sure how the chromebooks boot into ubuntu properly but there's no GRUB or anything. Pretty interesting actually.

I actually just dealt with this a month or so. I looked at your image and was like damn that chromebook partitioning! Unfortunately from what I had found, it seems as though it's not possible to give Ubuntu more space or fetch those partitions. I tried to edit the partitions manually back to try and give myself more space using "cgpt" but it just corrupted the partitions and I had to reset. Here's some more information on those:

http://www.chromium.org/chromium-os/developer-information-for-chrome-os-devices/cr-48-chrome-notebook-developer-information/how-to-boot-ubuntu-on-a-cr-48

To better explain what those partitions are... those small small partitions are all important to Chrome OS to run essentially and unfortunately.

If you wanted to make your ubuntu partition bigger:

I had to reformat back to normal using this tool: http://support.google.com/chromeos/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1080595

Then reinstall using these instructions:http://chromeos-cr48.blogspot.com/2011/04/ubuntu-1104-for-cr-48-is-ready.html

Personally, I edited the script to have myself use Ubuntu 10.10 rather than 11.04 but if you follow these instructions you can manually specify how large you want your ubuntu partition to be.

I'm using ubuntu on the chromebook right now and it's absolutely fantastic, here's a screenshot of my partitions: http://i.imgur.com/no8y9.png

I'd like to start watching Top Gear. Where should I begin? by Yiadomin TopGear

[–]kentoe 1 point2 points ago

First try some of the specials and see what it's all about.

What I found from experience going through all the episodes is starting at the newest season and working backwards.

E.g.: Season 18 episode 1 -> newest episode After Season 18 watch Season 17 and so on.

By the time you get into the earlier episodes you'll have had a better appreciation for the show and can enjoy it. A lot of the really early seasons are sort of dry if you're just starting out.

How was the Senna documentary? by matlockgain TopGear

[–]kentoe 1 point2 points ago

They have it on Netflix. It's a fantastic documentary. I wasn't a huge F1 fan or had heard of Senna prior to the film and thought it was awesome. I'm actually planning on showing the movie to a few of my friends tonight after watching the new Top Gear.
