There's just no winning with a theist. by Ryskin1337in atheism

[–]kemloten 1 point2 points ago

That was pathetic. He basically said reality is a democracy and you let him get away with it. Saddest Facebook post ever.

Why is r/atheism an automatic subscription? by absurdistwolfin atheism

[–]kemloten 0 points1 point ago

No, I wasn't saying that. I was saying that r/atheism is ONE OF THE TWENTY MOST POPULAR SUBREDDITS. Not that it was the most popular among the twenty most popular subreddits.

I tried reporting their cover photo, but Facebook reviewed it and decided that it is not a violation of Facebook's hate speech policy and allowed it to remain. by Chiyotein atheism

[–]kemloten 1 point2 points ago

That's fucking amazing. They're not just implying, they're outright saying that the solution to the problem is killing gays. And Facebook doesn't care because the quote that prescribes killing gays is from the bible.

Dear r/atheism, I'm an atheist and I don't understand how some of you want to limit the speech of Christians? by Finalizedin atheism

[–]kemloten 3 points4 points ago

ust remember that anytime religious talk is brought up around you that it is them who impose religion on you and that you now the right the impose your thought on to them.

Bullshit. They aren't imposing anything upon me by just talking about it. They're imposing it on me by trying to make their religious beliefs the law. Stop making strawman arguments.

Dear r/atheism, I'm an atheist and I don't understand how some of you want to limit the speech of Christians? by Finalizedin atheism

[–]kemloten 4 points5 points ago

Saying we want Christians to shut up is not the same as saying we want to limit their free speech.

Why is r/atheism an automatic subscription? by absurdistwolfin atheism

[–]kemloten 1 point2 points ago

The demonstrates nothing other than that r/atheism has less subscribers than other default subreddits. It doesn't demonstrate that auto-subscriptions are responsible for r/atheism being in the top twenty. Obviously we had to have hit the top twenty numbers without the auto-subscribes to get into the top twenty in the first place.

Who the fuck is trying to limit the speech of Christians? Where did you get that?

Citation? How are you able to differentiate between the autos and the purposely subscribed?

True. Particularly your second point.

Why is r/atheism an automatic subscription? by absurdistwolfin atheism

[–]kemloten 0 points1 point ago

Yup. Kinda sucks because it means that we're bombarded with comments from idiots and trolls every minute of every day. I'm not particularly happy about it either.

Why is r/atheism an automatic subscription? by absurdistwolfin atheism

[–]kemloten 9 points10 points ago

It's one of the 20 most popular subreddits. We didn't make those rules. Deal with it.

Also, I wouldn't give a shit if I were auto-subscribed to r/Christianity or r/Islam, because I'm not afraid of having my beliefs or lack of beliefs challenged.

Atheism Logic by ImThatGuyJakein atheism

[–]kemloten 2 points3 points ago

Well remember, if he's a Christian, this guy thinks that he will live forever. So this life is essentially meaningless because it's just one drop in a bottomless bucket.

I'll do whatever the fuck I like with my time. Thanks.

I don't think you quite understand the difference between making religious beliefs LAW and arguing that religious beliefs are stupid. They are not the same thing. Making your religious beliefs law forces people who otherwise don't want to, to follow your religion. This is unconstitutional in my country, because our constitution says that our government isn't supposed to favor one religion over another.

I don't care of Christians go to "gay meetings" and protest. They have the right to do so, and I have the right to point out that a religion which compelled others to oppress people is awful and should be criticized endlessly. I will not ignore prejudice against gays or women just like I will not ignore racism. They are equally evil whether the are religiously motivated or not.

r/Christianity is not a very popular subreddit. Reddit doesn't really attract Christians. That's why you don't see posts on reddit from r/christianity. In real life however, Christians, particularly ignorant fundamentalist Christians outnumber atheists many, many times over. We are not harassing anyone. We are posting in our own subreddit unfortunately reddit set up so that the top twenty most popular subreddits are on the front page. We can't help that we're one of the twenty most popular subreddits. That choice wasn't ours.

Understand?

In what way are we preventing people from living their lives? What war? Christians are trying to oppress others by making their beliefs the law. We don't want to live according to their beliefs. Are we supposed to lie down and let them oppress gays and women?

In what way are we shoving anything down anyone's throat? Just unsubscribe or ignore it. It's not like we're trying to legislate our beliefs (if atheism were a belief to begin with) like, y'know, Christians do.

[–]kemloten 0 points1 point ago

I honestly can't ever get mad when r/circle jerk mocks us because their mockery doesn't really have any intellectual content. It doesn't criticize us in any significant way. It reminds me of the people in Idiocracy who insult others by saying: "You talk like a fag and your shit's all fucked up."

What are you supposed to say to that?

Been a lurker for a while, saw some atheist videos about religion.. Really? I am dissapoint... by BigVaccumein atheism

[–]kemloten 3 points4 points ago

  1. We don't proselytize. We don't harrass. If you don't like this subreddit unsubscribe.

  2. Thy can believe whatever they like. We aren't stopping them. All we care about is preventing them from legislating their beliefs because that's unconstitutional and their beliefs are oppressive.

  3. Their beliefs are not immune to criticism.

  4. Atheism is not a religion. It's a the lack of a belief in any gods.

Honestly, I haven't encountered anything I could really call evidence. I ask for it from theists continually, but no one every really presents it. Mostly they try to argue for the necessity of a god's existence. Every argument for the existence of a god I've ever heard has been an argument from ignorance.

Are you a believer?

scumbag atheist by agnt0007in atheism

[–]kemloten 1 point2 points ago

You're right. Again, I have never claimed that no gods exist. I am not denying their actual existence. But because the evidence doesn't satisfy my criteria I don't believe the claim that gods do exist -- which is what makes me an atheist.

You follow?
