What is the moral basis for self-defense to be an exception to the non agreession principle? by toSTONEiGOin Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]keeead 0 points1 point ago

Can self-defense as a violent act be wrong, but justified in that there is no assumption of virtue when under duress?

Sore throat after remicade infusion by TheSheathin CrohnsDisease

Do you take prednisone or other steroids with your remicade infusion? Those can really effect your mood.

Sore throat after remicade infusion by TheSheathin CrohnsDisease

[–]keeead 1 point2 points ago

if you are taking any other medication with the infusion that may be a factor too.

I know a lot of people take Benadryl with their remicade, and maybe Zyrtec or something is a better alternative.

Yeah. Kinda hung over. Headache, scratchy voice, achy joints, people say I look pretty green.

I also will get constipated the following day of a remicade if I don't.... Regulate... my BM's.

Its all stuff I figured out how to manage after a while. And remicade days end up becoming a routine. At least for me it is.

[–]keeead 0 points1 point ago

I do. Not days though.

I usually schedule my remicade treatments for first thing in the morning. And by maybe 5pm, my voice will have reduced to a scratchy mess. Not painful, but definitely something happens to my throat.

There are a lot of weird but consistent side effects. I get a phantom smell from the solumederol pre-med. And the remicade generally makes me feel toxic for about 12-15 hours.

It's a slippery slope... by cuttlefish1054in atheism

The implication above that liberals goal of respecting "everyone's rights" is contradictory.

They have to violate the rights of individuals all the time, to accomplish what the liberal majority wills.

In which it is only "rights" because it fits in with the narrative.

The only way for rights to become universal is for government to stop meddling. The only tools it has at its disposal are the violation of inherit rights.

Rights are not something anyone can give to you. But rather something that no one can take away.

You keep using that word "rights" but I don't think you know what it means.

What the fuck is wrong with you people. I can't believe how many people here have expressed pleasure in seeing a child cry.

I mean, I know sadists exist, but I'm amazed at how many have managed to congregate in one place.

You may think humiliation it's an appropriate form of behavior modification, okay, whatever we could debate that for days.

But shit, to actually feel good about it. That's fucked up.

Anyone born on this property would then have the choice of following the rules laid out by the property owner (i.e. the state) or leaving.

The state is not a person.

Also, physical presence within a geographic area is not equal to presence within a "state." The solid ground beneath you cannot make arguments, legal contracts, or collect and spend taxes as the "state" claims to be able to do. The 'State of Arizona', and the geographic area known as 'Arizona' are two different things.

In addition to bitcoins, a company can keep their clients anonymous through some sort of hash and private key. The client provides their own private key and the insurance company keeps the hash. Even if the IRS got a hold of a list of hashes, even if they could crack them open, they would contain only anonymous information, like a record of bitcoin payments and the details of the contract. When the customer requires the services of the insurance company, they provide the private key, which unencrypts the hash and reveals approval, in the form of "the user of this key has met the requirements (payment up to date, ect)" but wouldn't contain any identifying information.

With this, possession is everything, though. If you don't keep your key secure, anyone could convince the insurance company that they had been paying for their service.

The 99% would dodge their taxes too, if they could.

Wait... competition among ISPs won't work, we *NEED* Net Neutrality... right? by KantLockeMeInin Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]keeead 0 points1 point ago

As I see it, net neutrality makes the whole internet suck equally. Right now we get data caps and speed throttling on wireless, with the idea that that might happen on wired connections too.

If we get rid of net neutrality, then youtube might be able to work out a deal with Verizon that says, don't count any of the traffic between your customers and YouTube towards their data cap, and they work out some sort of advertising deal as part of that. Seems to me, its better if at least part of the internet that you use through your provider is in the favor of the consumer. Rather than all of it treated equally.

I don't see the incentive for an ISP to treat another company with worse service than another. You can make more money selling weapons to both sides of the war, rather than picking sides.

[–]keeead -1 points0 points ago

Let me ask you a few questions

You are correct that it is mandated by law. But does that necessarily make it right?

If the government claims absolute authority, or responsibility for education, does that necessarily make that responsibility legitimate?

Is the goal of education to simply pass a college entrance exam? Does learning end with college? If the student doesn't have an inherent lust for self-directed learning, will he/she ever be able to learn anything that isn't given to them from an authority figure?

In children we see defiance to authority as offensive, but in adults we see acquiescence as weakness. How do we encourage young people to grow into independent people, complete with a sense of self-ownership, if as children, we insist on an obedience to authority? And what's worse, those that realize that they themselves can command obedience to their own authority, or are put into a position of authority (like a teacher) what are the means we teach them as children to do that?

Kids know in their gut that the whole system is run on dominance, aggression, humiliation, might-makes-right, will of the majority, etc. And they model that out, they act that out. This is a cycle that needs to be broken.

It is so difficult for those who have for so long seen authority as truth, to try and see truth as the authority

[–]keeead 0 points1 point ago

I agree, an ideal situation in my opinion, would be to consult with the teacher before the student enters the class, find out their planned curriculum, see how it aligns with the needs to the student, and sign a contract (include the student in this process). If the teacher or the student deviates from the contract, then you have a reason to take action against the offending party. To involve current events, this can include the teacher's behavior outside of class. If you can't come to an agreement, then it should be clear that you need to find another teacher. Not go above the teachers head and try to force them into compliance.

But if you throw your kid into a classroom, and then it turns out that the class isn't meeting an expectation you never insisted upon before hand? Who's fault is that?

I don't accept that students or parents should rely on the states rules governing schools or teachers to educate their children. The state has proved itself a failure, when it comes to educating children. The goal of education should not be to cover the standards, to pass a college entrance exam or to simply learn the course materials. The goal of childhood education should be to inspire a lifelong desire to learn, to seek out knowledge under ones own self-direction.

[–]keeead 0 points1 point ago

No, passivity would be telling the student to just stay in the class, keep your mouth shut and don't make a fuss.

It's more important to take personal responsibility for your education.

Trying to bully teachers into how you want them to teach is immoral, and teaches kids that it's okay to use force to impose their will onto others.

[–]keeead 1 point2 points ago

As a parent you have ultimate responsibility for your children, Both the student and the parent should decide their educational path. You cannot force your will onto the the teacher or the school. Going to administration and trying to influence from a top down approach is merely going to teach your child to use dominance, humiliation and aggression to effect change.

If you don't think the teacher is providing a sufficient education, Work with your child to find a new teacher or a new school, or to pull them out of school completely and try something like un-schooling or homeschool. The only things you have legitimate authority over is yourself. This sounds impossible, I know. You might think you have no real options like that. But you do. And this is your child's education, no problem should have zero options.
