Yes. Some people give a bad review because they bought the wrong item, or because the vendor screwed up (which might make me buy from someone else), but not because the product was bad.

People who happen to have negative experiences are more likely to write a review than people who have positive experiences.

That's exactly the reason why high ratings work. If happy customers are less likely to rate a product, then when I see a high rating, I know that in reality, it's even better than what I see. There are lots of happy customers who did't weigh in.

I rely on ratings a lot when shopping, but I consider it to be invalid if there aren't a lot of them, so the actual number of gold stars (or eggs, in this case), is only relevant if it's based on a consensus of many.

But even if I see a product with thousands of positive reviews, I always look at a sampling of complaints that people have. You never know when there might be an issue that's no problem for most customers, but which indicates that the product won't meet my needs.

That's why we oppose Citizens United, and Congress profiting from insider information. That's not the same as government regulation, which I think you oppose. I don't want counterproductive regulation, but I also don't want counterproductive deregulation.

And I really disagree with your assumption that corporations have to listen to consumers. That's a notion that died long ago. Monsanto is a perfect example. I don't have time to get into what a corrupt beast this corporations is, but even their customers are fearful of them, and feel screwed into buying products that they do not want.

Big pharma is another example. Sick people are at their mercy. The customer is not calling the shots.

Same with the oil industry.

We're not talking about people who are running a boutique on Main street, who have to keep customers happy. We're talking about people who will make huge profits whether the public wants to do business with them or not.

You're glossing over quite a bit here. What's making government corrupt is corporate influence. Corporations are tearing down regulations that protect Americans, so they can profit while acting recklessly. Asking for more regulation is asking for a return to times of less corruption.

Never assume that the corruption of one element equals the purity of the other.

Take an objective look at your beliefs. Corporations would crush every one of us to make a profit. If you believe in a government of the people, for the people, and by the people, then you have to side with liberals, who want the people, and not corporations, to run the country. No matter how corrupt an executive is, I cannot vote against him. He is untouchable. I can vote out a politician.

We need balance.
