Fair Tax is a similar idea, and features a monthly prebate which covers the amount of tax paid on poverty-level spending.

That figure includes physical assets, it doesn't mean there's 54 trillion in actual dollars.

Supreme Court recently ruled in favor of the "God Hates Fags" Westboro Baptist Church, allowing them to continue their protests at military funerals under their freedom of speech rights.

That seems a little more incendiary than what the Florida pastor has done.

Didn't Mellon's liquidation ideas work during the 1920/21 recession?

Incidentally, Hoover didn't follow Mellon's prescriptions going into the Great Depression, so Krugman is being dishonest in saying that those policies were why the Great Depression dragged on.

Pretty sure they called themselves "tea-partiers", perhaps because they would wear tea bags on their hats maybe it seemed like they called themselves teabaggers. There were never any ads for "Come to the Teabagger Rally!"

'Liberal' may have evolved into a negative, but 'teabagger' was a negative term at the outset.

What if Egyptians just got upset because they were too poor to buy food anymore due to spiking commodity prices, on top of the fact that the rulers are dicks?

Precisely what I was getting at. So what is the point of official inflation, or even pointing to it and saying "good" or "bad"?...It doesn't factor in two of your fundamental needs to continue living.

Do you support the decision to not factor food and energy into inflation?

I notice you took down your previous comment claiming that the USDA website was a bunch of "right-wing liars". Official inflation is irrelevant. What is relevant, is that food and energy prices are going up. Official inflation tells us nothing.

Well, I don't understand why you find it so important to hold to that position that you can't look at the facts.

There's lies, damned lies, and statistics.

The reality is when I buy things they cost more. You're implying a negligible increase in prices people pay for items that are essential, by parroting the <2% inflation figure like a town crier.

Economy still isn't adding any appreciable numbers in the jobs department, so even if inflation were under 2% it would still be bad (prices going up, people aren't getting paid).

Nice red herring, I notice you didn't dispute the very real price increases which I laid out for you.
