i went to a Catholic high school staffed by Jesuits. The system of detention was called 'jug' for justice under God. Jug is assigned in 20 minuts units. If you miss it without an excuse your sentence doubles. There was a rule that you were required to check the jug list daily to make sure you weren't on it.

I never got in trouble, especially without knowing about it. There was no way for this to happen. If you were to get jug, a teacher would tell you what you were getting it for and issue you a 'jug slip' explaining the offense. So, I didn't routinely check the jug list.

One day I get called down to the vice principals office because I've accumulated 16 20 units of jug. I explain it's a misunderstanding so he looks into it. It turns out, the original infraction was for a student with a very similar last name.

So he removes the first two units since I didn't do the crime. The rest of it I had to serve as punishment for not reading the jug list daily.

I don't have a good memory for all the details of the thing. I'm kind of glad for that. We were in my dates fathers season tickets in the Upper golds, Maybe about 25 rows up on the blue line near where it happened.

But, the Game went on. I don't remember how long the stoppage was or if the rest of the period was tacked on to the next or whatever.

When it first happened, I remember thinking he was throwing up. the blood kind of came in waves. Then in dawned on me what happened. It was in waves because that was his pulse.

When the game resumed the crowd that stayed basically sat there in shock. it was very quiet.

Sorry, I'm not telling a better story here. I don't remember most of it. Just a couple of very vivid details. The rest of it is a blur.

Great article. I was at the game. One of the scariest things I've ever witnessed. Besides the incident, the thing I remember most was the line for pay phones. Everyone was calling home to see if he was dead.

The issue was all the leaves were still on the trees. that lead to the ice making the trees too heavy and all the fallen branches and dead trees.
