Off topic here but I think the next several years will be very interesting to watch in terms of players contracts. I wonder how long it will take for players to readjust their expectations.

It's always terrible when big time players get serious injuries. These are the guys that make football fun to watch. I know playing the vikings wouldn't nearly be as fun if I didn't have to say 'oh shit' every time AP got the ball.

You need more than hatred for candidate A to elect candidate B. I wouldn't say he overly surprised anyone when he took office either. He ran on the idea of drastically trimming to balance the budget and the majority of people in WI voted him in for that.

So democrats elected Tom Barrett, the guy Walker beat in the general election by over 5%. This guy is the mayor of the biggest city in Wisconsin, Milwaukee. Milwaukee is also happens to be one of the poorest cities in the entire nation. He's not exactly an example of the democratic party putting their best foot forward. Add to this that Walker already has a ridiculous financial advantage over any democratic candidate.

I'm not saying Barrett won't give him a run for his money. There's definitely a substantial amount of people who want to kick him out of office, but I can't see Walker losing this rematch.

Isn't it time to mandate OUTER-PADDED helmets in the NFL? by herbert1820in nfl

[–]iaBandit 0 points1 point ago

Force is never 'lost'. It can be absorbed through a larger displacement, which is the entire idea of padding, but it'll still get absorbed. You are correct with the crumple zones of cars absorbing the force of a crash but the comparison to football ends when you realize that helmets don't crumple. Force is applied to the helmet padding and the helmet padding exerts a force on your head. The force is spread out from an initial contact point but in the end it's still spread out over your head.

What I think you were trying to get at is that padding reduces the 'jolt' of a hit, as in the force is applied over a longer period of time. This definitely helps reduce the damage to the brain but in order to have a small enough jolt to not harm the brain significantly you need an unrealistic amount of padding. I agree that more padding will help prevent concussions but not enough to stop brain damage.

As for the boxing thing, you may not get stitches from a padded glove as you would from a bare knuckle punch but your brain's still absorbing the same amount of force in both cases. In a fight w/o gloves your bones and skin can protect your brain and absorb force by being fractured or getting cut. Those injuries are your bodies way of telling you you're done. Without those safeguards you won't stop fighting until you get K.O.'d or your head ache starts getting so bad that you can't take another rattle.

Isn't it time to mandate OUTER-PADDED helmets in the NFL? by herbert1820in nfl

[–]iaBandit 0 points1 point ago*

It's too bad that the public will never go for it since it's against common sense. Also, the instant you get rid of the current helmets players will play safer. Problem with that is that football becomes 10x less violent and whether you want to admit it or not the public will find it 10x less interesting.

It's actually really sad that the sport of football will be forever stuck with this. Kids grow up dreaming of playing in the NFL, only the 'lucky' ones get there. Flash forward 20 years and they're stuck with some kind of brain damage and dying (on average) 30 years before their 'unlucky' classmates.

You definitely have to sift through the dirt before you'll find something you like but keep looking around, it took me over a month. Honestly it doesn't matter much since your hair will grow back out in a month or two and you can easily get a different style. It's much easier to be adventuresome with short hair than long.

Great clips may be convenient but think about how it characterizes you as a person. Do you want to tell people 'I stopped at great clips for a quick, convenient, (subliminally cheap) haircut' or do you want to say 'I went to see my barber'. Hair is something you have to deal with 24/7 so why wouldn't you want get it done consistently the way you want? Invest in yourself and fork over the extra $10-$15.

This is kind of a tricky argument that really relates to boxing.

A long time ago boxers didn't use padded gloves and it was just fist on body contact, much like football was. Fighters would break their hands in fights (boxer fracture) so these guys had to land smarter punches. Also people think about punching guys in the head like it's nothing but it's essentially solid bone. Imagine punching a hanging block of concrete, ouch. So the powers that be wanted the fights to be longer and 'safer' so they mandated padded gloves in boxing. This may seem good but now guys were wailing on each others heads, banging their brains around inside the skull. It doesn't matter how padded the glove is, the same amount of force is getting to the head (and brain). You can't argue against this, its physics.

It's very much analogous to padded football helmets. If you're wearing a helmet you're more likely to go banging your head on things than you would without it.

Two guys run and headbutt each other w/o helmets, shit gets fucked up and they walk away with stitches on their foreheads. Now two guys run and headbutt each other w/ helmets, it hurts a little bit and they have a bit of a head ache but they walk it off and it goes away in 5 min so they do it again. Obviously getting all those head aches over and over lead to brain damage.

Fact of the matter is that you can make helmets padded in every way, shape, and form but people will still get brain damage. In a way this whole concussion discussion is pointless, it won't go away until the helmet to helmet contact goes away. I'm not talking about illegal hits either, I'm talking about the thousands of smaller helmet to helmet bumps that happen every game.

Every guy should grow his hair out long and have a buzz cut at least once in his life. I think you're done with the grow it out part of your life. I had my hair a shaggy for most of my childhood up to high school and when I got to college I decided it was time to cut it short. I knew I had to sooner or later, I'm sure you know that too. Honestly, think of your typical businessman/ engineer/ professional. Do they have a bieber haircut? Do they look like fabio? The answer is a resounding no.

On to the advice. For the next couple weeks, maybe month, start collecting and saving pictures of short hairstyles you like. Check out the hairstyle area of the sidebar. The idea is to get an idea of what you really want. protip: the medium length styles are going to be a bitch to maintain and you'll be spending a lot of time putting product in your hair in the morning. However you're going to have to come to terms with the fact that you'll have to use some kind of product to get the look you want.

When you finally decide on the cut you want, print out the picture and take it to wherever you get your haircut. If you don't get your haircut from the same person every time, start to. Stop going to great clips and find a local barber shop to call home for the next couple years. Don't be embarrassed about bringing in a picture either, your barber will be thrilled to help you get the haircut you want.

Hargrove facing 8 game suspension.... by kingtut891in GreenBayPackers

[–]iaBandit 0 points1 point ago

It sucks to lose him for a portion of the season but I'm hoping that since he was essentially the whistle blower that Goodell will lower his punishment in the appeal.

[–]iaBandit 3 points4 points ago

Well Vilma, Fujita, and Smith were the leaders/captains of the defense at the time so it makes sense that they be punished, especially Vilma for the Favre bounty. Hargrove on the other hand was the only player who submitted a signed declaration acknowledging the existance and his participation in the bounty system. Maybe he was punished more than Fujita and Smith because they had hard facts on his involvement. Also the article I read said he "actively obstructed" the investigation in 2010.

I'm betting (and hoping) that during the appeal process his punishment is the only one that gets reduced. Goodell has to recognize that he played a crucial role in uncovering the whole thing.

Mossimo or Gap? by GDKernin malefashionadvice

[–]iaBandit 4 points5 points ago*

I've got one of each and one big difference is the material. Gap is 100% cotton whereas target is a 60-40 cotton-polyester blend. For the target V, it's more elastic and kind of clings to your arms and upper body. The V-neck collar is also much more conservative because of the material. The Gap V fits great for me (imo). The V-neck collar is pretty moderate, not as conservative as the mossimo but definitely not a deep V.

If I had to choose I'd say Gap is a better stand alone t-shirt but target is a great colorful undershirt if you're wearing a partially zipped hoodie or something.

Just bought ME 1... any tips for a newbie to the series? by CompoundAcein masseffect

[–]iaBandit 2 points3 points ago

As a general rule of thumb, when you need to make a big story-line decision of whether to kill someone/something or let them/it live it's almost always more interesting to let them/it live. That way they/it can come back into the story in later games. In the end your story will play out fine and it will still be an awesome experience but I know I always regretted killing off certain characters or things.

Be adventurous with the classes. I know the majority of people play though as soldiers, I did myself, but having experimented with biotic and tech classes in ME3 MP I can't believe how much I've missed out on.

On a final note, if you got it on 360 and you're an achievement junkie be sure to keep the same squad through through the entirety of each play through. There are individual achievements for having each companion in your squad for 75% of a play though or something, you can google it. Enjoy!

I'm really hoping that either him or Sherrod develop a little more. I think that with a full training camp for Sherrod he can be better prepared to play tackle and we can have some competition with Newhouse.

[–]iaBandit 1 point2 points ago

While I agree that Rodgers has good pocket movement to wiggle away from most pass rushers he did get a couple concussions in the 2010-11 season. He's obviously a guy the packers will build their team around for the next decade and I think obtaining another solid offensive tackle provides the insurance to make sure he stays in that position.

[–]iaBandit 1 point2 points ago*

I think it's worth noting that the offensive tackle position has been a continuing issue for us. We drafted Bulaga in the first round a couple years ago and he's worked out great for us. Then we drafted Derek Sherrod (first round again?) who played guard in college and tried to convert him to tackle. That ended..... well, you can see Newhouse beat him out to replace Clifton when he went down. Clifton will be retiring very, very soon and someone has yet to step up.
