My friend painted this in a day...He doesn't get paid for this. I want to help him become more well known. by SJBradleyNYin pics

Something is really irritating me about the comments. Everyone is degrading representational art and says it's not creative, it doesn't sell, people aren't looking for it. But this is total nonsense, artists like Scott Waddel, Juliette Aristides, and Daniel Sprick are immensely successful at atelier painting.

The comments that really grind my gears are ones about how this isn't creative because it's just a straight up portrait, but this is so rare these days that it's actually appealing to many people. I graduated with a degree in Illustration and I'm in the process of opening an art gallery in downtown Denver. Galleries are fucking flooded with shitty contemporary art from artists who can't even draw observationally, you know, abstract expressionist office art, smears of color, black on black on black canvases, etc.

The resurrection of atelier style painting and representational artists is not only refreshing but it's necessary. Not all art has to be some high-brow intellectual bullshit that you'd see in a modern art exhibit, it doesn't have to be inexplicable or curious, sometimes beauty is enough. Part of appreciating artwork like this is recognition of the skill it takes to recreate the illusion of life in two dimensions. It's like how some jazz is very listenable and other jazz is really technical. This is a more technical painting and I personally love it.

I played true normal, nightmare and 3/4 Hell in Diablo 3. That's it? by Donvito293in truegaming

This is silly to always try to establish who did what first. It's like saying the Mona Lisa is a cheap rip-off of cave painting. It misses the entire point that culture and art is always in a state of flux, influenced by what happened before, what's happening now, and how we feel the future will turn out. That's just human nature, we learn from one another, it's what gives us an edge. We've collectively lived billions of lifetimes together and shared much of the knowledge that's accumulated.

Do any of the world's religions, besides Christianity, advocate that their creation story be considered science? by dgrstlin TrueAtheism

[–]huxtiblejones 19 points20 points ago

Those are unfair assumptions. Infallible holy books are a hallmark of abrahamic religion. Take for example the Dalai Lama who stated that if science undermines a belief in Buddhism then the religion will have to reassess that belief. The question is asking whether or not there are non abrahamic creationists, i.e. Religious people who believe their creation story is scientific. In my experience this is uniquely abrahamic.

That has nothing to do with 'people from the internet,' that's just people.

I have always loathed The Oatmeal. It's consistently unfunny, every joke is forced and seems to appeal only to tween humor because it always banks on 'OMG SO RANDOM' jokes. The drawings are irredeemably bad and the writing is beyond irritating.

Does anyone else wince a little bit when driving under the Speer/15th St. bridges? Cripes! by Stumpalupagusin Denver

[–]huxtiblejones 1 point2 points ago

There's several bridges in RiNo around 38th st that are extremely old and look like they're ready to collapse at any minute. My brother actually told me that one of those bridges is the least structurally sound in the state. We used to have a family business in the area so I don't doubt it.

Cintiq 24HD review by Green_honeyin paintingpixels101

[–]huxtiblejones 0 points1 point ago

The thing about the 12wx getting jittery around the edges is true. It's not horrible but it can sometimes throw you off a bit. I rarely if ever use the very corners through so it doesn't bother me much. The 12wx is my preference because it's the thinnest Cintiq you can get. It lays in your lap just like a sketchbook, it can be flipped around, works left or right handed, and does a good job of representing the true-to-print colors. I've never noticed a lack of pressure sensitivity until I heard the 24hd is better. I got my 12wx for $800 and love it, it's a perfect medium size and works just fine as a second monitor.

I do wish they'd change the number of cords, you have to plug in 4 different cables to a central hub so it's not very portable.

Sounds like a nice piece of hardware. I use a Cintiq 12wx and really love the small size, at my college we had the larger Cintiqs and I didn't like them as much because you rarely if ever make a stroke longer than 12 inches. Most of that huge screen size is wasted. If they shrunk this exact design down to a 12-16 inch screen, maybe with the option of detaching it and using it in your lap, I'd be all over it. I like the changes to the buttons, the scroll wheel, the pressure sensitivity, all the extra features, but to me the huge size is a downside. I don't even have desk space to fit something that big.

God... I haven't touched SWTOR in about a month out of sheer boredom, and now looking at this I am reminded how horrible the art direction is. Not only is almost every single outfit in here forgettable and boring, but the character anatomy is about as ugly as it gets. Trying to put 'cool' outfits on a person whose body is practically a bag of bones is like trying to polish a turd.

I don't really see how this article fits in 'environment' when it's about the 9/11 attacks and a singer's cancer.

'It's believed?' It's pretty obvious what the image is representing, whether or not it's Banksy's work isn't.
