Don't use "lactose-intolerance" in an attempt to make this mishugas sound rational.

Lactose-intolerance isn't an Allergy that can be triggered by tiny amounts of an allergen - it's an inability to digest large amounts of lactose.

The few molecules of lactose that may be left on a bagging machine, and diluted in hundreds of pounds of chocolate will assuredly not affect the lost lactose-intolerant person.

The problem is entirely in your head - the refusal to eat anything without that little letter on the package.

Do fevers have an anti-cancer effect? by obvioustrollin Health

[–]hsfrey 0 points1 point ago

Tumor cells are more sensitive to heating than normal cells, which is why hyperthermia is often an effective treatment.

Back in the beginning of that last century "Coley's Toxins" were used to induce fever and kill some sensitive cancers.

That said, is it the heat itself, heat-induced changes in the cell, like heat-shock proteins, or effects on the immune system that make the difference?

This is yet another problem with ERISA!

Employers can change or cancel the policy at any time at their sole discretion. And if you happen to have a pre-existing condition, you're fucked.

The whole idea of making medical care dependent on the whims of an employer is preposterous. Only in America!

Where did it say "Never"?

But it's true that many Christians aren't good because of fear of Hell. They don't HAVE to be good, because "not by your works, but by your Faith, Ye shall be saved."

Convenient.

What trivial act would you like to ban or make illegal? Personally, I would like to outlaw public speakers who start off by saying, "I can't hear you!" or "Let's try that again!" by danger_mcboomin AskReddit

[–]hsfrey 1 point2 points ago

If YOU're going too slowly in the wrong lane, why should it be illegal for someone ELSE to pass you however he can?

How about on the Freeway, where each lane is going stop and go, asynchronously? Must the lane on the right hang back when it's finally their turn to go?

Reddit, as a classical musician, tell me what we could do better. What is it about classical music that keeps you away from our concerts? by a12345678910in AskReddit

[–]hsfrey 0 points1 point ago

In an effort to FORCE classical music lovers to listen to 20th Century atonal crap, they always program some of it, and a;ways put it in the middle of the program, so you can't avoid it by coming late or leaving early.

I will NOT pay big bucks for a concert and then be forced to listen to a piece of shit I would turn off in a moment if I were at home.

"Why should I be moral?" Peter Singer's MA thesis by NeoPlatonistin philosophy

[–]hsfrey 0 points1 point ago

You wouldn't remain happy, because pretty soon other people will avoid you or refuse to do things you want or need, because you're a sociopathic prick.

Which is presumably why evolution gave us empathy and morals, so we can benefit from living in a group.

A materials scientist at Michigan Technological University has discovered a chemical reaction that not only eats up the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide, it also creates something useful. And, by the way, it releases energy. by nomdewebin science

[–]hsfrey 0 points1 point ago

And, how much energy does it take to make the LI3N?

It's not found in nature, because it reacts violently with water, so it's got to be produced.

All that energy it releases when it encounters CO2 (or water!) has to come from somewhere.

Inflation is Quiet, So Why are People Still Feeling its Pain? by besttrousersin Economics

[–]hsfrey 3 points4 points ago

I don't believe that there's no inflation. They're cooking the figures.

Except for houses, where foreclosures have glutted the market, I know of nothing which hasn't either become more expensive, or gives less product for the same money.
