I agree. This is a polite request, no guilt, and it shows they care. You have good friends.

Heard a girl getting accosted, what to do? by upsmackin atheistparents

[–]gunnerclark -1 points0 points ago

Write a letter to the editor and tell your story plus mention the fear of her being bullied and religious bigotry. It will get wider play and not hidden in the school system. Send the letter the day after you tell the school so you can say "I told the school and have heard nothing" so you seem concerned for her safety...and you are. The press is an undervalued tool in today's atheist world. Good luck.

Atheist scouts told to “keep quiet” or lie about their beliefs by LHOOQtiusin atheism

[–]gunnerclark 0 points1 point ago

I agree wholly with that statement. I would have no trouble with their keeping atheists out as it is a private organization...like a church. The problem in my view is the public money they take. That does create a problem that needs addressing.

I was asked to leave a hardware store in Kansas because I was wearing this T-shirt. by hboc22in atheism

[–]gunnerclark 0 points1 point ago

I don't feel sorry for you. People wear shirts like that to get a reaction, and many desire to get a negative reaction, and you got one. The end result of insulting someone means you got what you wanted...Yippee! You're an atheist ass.

Find out the legality of placing a recording device on your child and listen in your spare time to the recordings. This will allow you to get a feel of the situation...but find out the legalities first. This little act has brought to life a whole pile of abuse of special needs children and such and might be what you need.

My wife and I call it "the floppy finger movie" because the prosthetic that they wore for the sixth finger was bad, and flopped un-naturally around.

Does Ancient Rome's supposed discovery of South America have any credence in the historical community? by jr_cigarin history

[–]gunnerclark 1 point2 points ago

Don't worry if the issue gets laughed at here. I was taking a course from a University and the teacher had us watch a video in which he talked about the trade between Africa and South America before Columbus. I just kept my mouth shut and passed his class...but it does show that wild ideas are not limited to fringe websites or self published books.

Pickling with different kinds of vinegar? by huitlacochein Canning

[–]gunnerclark 2 points3 points ago

Other vinegar will simply add flavor...it is the ph balance that is important. Have fun and try out other tastes. I've used apple cider in my pickles and the flavor was nice.

Hey guys. I'm new to this stuff. Where are some good places to shop for solar stuff online? by BunnehZniprin solar

[–]gunnerclark 2 points3 points ago

Have you checked for any rebate programs in your state? It might limit your choice of systems but also make it easier to start, but the savings could be worth it.

Hey guys. I'm new to this stuff. Where are some good places to shop for solar stuff online? by BunnehZniprin solar

[–]gunnerclark 2 points3 points ago

It is easy to get overwhelmed. I myself would recommend you get a good book on solar for dummies and find what you want to get out of it first. Are you looking for a basic hot water system, whole house, a fun hobby, or more. Also learn from a good dummies book the different types of panels.

I myself think that a good basic system from Northern Tools or like place is a good place to start. It lets you get your feet wet without breaking the bank.

Are these underslung grenade launchers? Australian SASR in Vietnam. by Berg426in history

[–]gunnerclark 19 points20 points ago

XM148 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XM148_grenade_launcher

from wiki The XM148 was an experimental 40 mm grenade launcher developed by Colt Firearms as the CGL-4 (Colt Grenade Launcher). Colt manufactured the launcher for field testing during the Vietnam era. It was designed for installation below the barrel of M16-type rifles, and was intended to replace the stand-alone M79 correcting the problem of grenadiers relying on pistols as a secondary weapon. After problems with the experimental design were discovered, the XM148 was replaced by AAI Corporation's conceptually similar M203 design, currently the primary grenade launcher used by the US armed forces and others today. Originally made for use with the M16 Rifle, the XM148 was also used by US Special Forces in conjunction with the XM177E2 and the Australian SASR in conjunction with the modified L1A1, nicknamed "the bitch".

I'm not some eco-freak, but I'm surprised they did not drain fuel, oil and other lubricants to lessen the impact upon the ocean. I've always been impressed with ships sunk for artificial reefs and how much they clean them.

My vegan cousin keeps comparing my desire to raise chickens for eggs to slavery.... by eyropiaripin BackYardChickens

[–]gunnerclark 2 points3 points ago

His 'reasoning' is emotional so anything you say can be dismissed and misinterpreted to be used against you. One of the best things I have ever done was take a moment and see if a persons viewpoint is based on reasoning and logic...or emotions. If emotional the chance of making headway no matter how calm and reasonable you are is tiny. Some debates are better avoided.

Skulls on stakes in Sweden date to the Mesolithic (With Photos) by anutensilin history

[–]gunnerclark 0 points1 point ago

The skulls have now been C14 dated to 6212-5717 cal BC and two dates on worked wood have also been obtained (5972-5675 cal BC), making them 7-8000 year old.

I know what BC stands for, but what does "cal BC" mean? Is it a version of CE (Common era)?

Odd issue with Google Books by gunnerclarkin google

These book were farm technology books about farm practices published in the late 1890's to the 1900's. Three volumes. Sadly the website archive simply links back to google books. I will say that I'm not sure what 'google play' is...I'll check that out.
